I apologize if this is a stupid question (which it probably is)...   I have a upright propane smoker and am planning on smoking a brisket & pork shoulder this coming Friday (May 18th) for about 15 people.  Assuming both meats are approx the same weight, does it matter which meat is above or below the other?  My gut is telling me to put the brisket above the pork but I have no rational for that.   Any assistance would be appreciated.
 
It's a matter of choice some people would put the butt on top so it kind of bastes the brisket others would put the brisket on top. So it's really a matter of personal tastes
 
The Brisket is more sensitive to heat so put it on which ever level is cooler...JJ
 
I agree that it is a matter of personal taste.  I normally put my pork below because of the basting liquids I use.  I use a beer base for brisket and vinegar based for pork. I can handle the beer on the vinegar but not the vinegar on my beer.....

I just did this yesterday in my ECB.  I started the pork first and then put the brisket on.  The brisket was done around the time I had to foil the pork butt and the added juices from the butt on the beef actually tasted great.

  I put the butt above so that it helps baste the brisket, but it really doesn't matter either way will come out good.
