Smoking & Grilling Porch Upgrade  (Bear)

I promised I would take pics along the way & post my Porch Upgrade, so here it is:

Our House is only 13 years old, but I got tired of coating the Porch every 3 years & the Steps every year. Plus the Stair Treads needed replacing for the Third time.
So I decided to use AZEK “XDM” this time, which is an Awesome Manmade product (PVC), which will hold up to all of the things that will ruin most decks. It’s not cheap, but it should last forever, or at least until the support structure can no longer hold up, which should be a long time.

I only wanted to redo the Steps, because the porch was still like new, but if I wanted to do the porch at a later date some of the stairs would have to be removed, so we figured we might as well do the whole works & get it over with. I also knew I had to add 13 new Joists, to the original 14 because the old way would have never passed code with the 24” on centers with the old 5/4” decking, or with this new stuff.

Then once we got the Stair Treads off we saw that the Stringers were a lot worse than we thought, so I had to make a quick run to get 5 PT 2” X 12” boards for new Stringers, and completely redo the stairs.

So now after all is said & done, my new Smoking & Grilling Porch is Completely Upgraded & Ready to go again.

More info with the Pics below.

So when are you coming to Florida to build my smoking porch?
LOL--I no longer can do any of the physical part myself---I just do the layouts, figuring, and ordering.

Great job, Bear!

That really improved the appearance and should last you a great long while.

What is the silver thing protruding from wall below the windows?
Thank You!!!

That is my Pellet Stove Vent Pipe (Chimney).

Hi Bear, we had wood decking around our garden, I agree what a pain. We took it up and replaced it with Plastic!
Thanks SM !!

Seems no matter what we put on wood, it doesn't hold up to UV Rays.

Bad enough I have to Paint my Whole Log House with Woodguard every 2 or 3 years, I want my porch, deck, and stairs carefree. This AZEK "XLM" should do the trick.

Bear

Project turned out Great.

PVC decking and all the accessories have come a long way and hold up better than wood with no maintenance.

I have spent my working career producing a variety of PVC products and know they will last.
