I have seen other threads on this topic but I would like to add some smoke to homemade bratwurst. Not cook the brats, just add smoke and grill them at a later date. Does anyone have any advice on how I can do this? I plan on using an electric smoker for a real low heat or an Amazing pellet smoker if it should just be cold smoked.

I'm assuming your brats do not have any cure in them.

So if this is the case then cold smoking or even warm smoking them would not be a good idea.

The only way this would work would be to cold smoke them for a max of couple of hours, then immediately grill them or fully cook them in some other way.

Thanks SmokingAl. You are correct, they do not have a cure in them. Thanks for the advice.
