I have a WSM and I'm new to smoking so I have been babysitting it a lot because I'm anal about temp. I bought a blower for my pit but it feels like more work with that than when I just adjust my vents

You'll get use to it, temp swings aren't a super huge deal. I run my smoker dry and set only one vent to a quarter open and it rolls for along time as long as your comfortable with it.
