As Texans probably know, Granbury is made by damming the Brazos up. Dont see how it could bust except if the spillway is maxed out. But then again, haven't been down there in several months to visit mommy and daddy so I haven't had the opportunity to see all the rain. Just hear about it.
BTW, copied the recipe too. Gonna try it today. Looks great!
it is raining yet again here, right now. i am sick of rain. my wood is all soaked outside. i guess i am going to have to build a cover for it. (place a tarp over it.) i don't want to build anything too heavy to move, as we are going to move in the near future.
Way to go low&slow, looks delicious and thanks for the recipe.
I sure do feel for ya'll down there, it's been raining for months now.....always feast or famine it seems. Try to stay dry and hopefully this will pass quickly and ya'll will have a green summer, which if my memory serves me correctley from when I lived there is a rareity(sp?).
Great looking food you got there. I cooked off and on in the rain yesterday myself. I copied the recipe myself.
Speaking of rain....it must have rained nine different times on me yesterday (the 4th). I've been up since daylight today, and its rained off and on again all day today. I just checked the forecast and its calling for rain up into the middle of next week. Up here, Pond Patman is full and they are letting as much out of it as they can. Texoma is expected to open its gates either today or tomorrow, so low lying areas along the Red are expected to flood. They put a piece in the paper warning the farmers and cattlemen to get their livestock and equipment out of the areas along the river. I'm not complaining about the rain too much, though. East Texas was in drought conditions for the last two years. All the lakes were down - in particular the one where our pontoon boat was. We couldn't get it out of the boathouse for two seasons!
I saw Lake Texoma on the news this morning. I have never seen that lake that full. It was only 3 inches from the top of the dam!!!
The funny thing is we still have water restrictions here in Arlington.
How much water do they want?
gotta love itintexas. we had water restrictions in corpus area when a tropical low was sitting on us. here's some fireworks ya prolly missed last night- i took pics for all the wet folks. http://s178.photobucket.com/albums/w247/gypsyseagod/
Once they impose the water restrictions as a result of the drought, its hard for them to go back and ease them. I guess they don't want to get caught with their britches down like last year and the year before. The Dallas area is one of the biggest backers of Marvin Nichols up on the Sulphur River. Funny thing is that they've already got pipelines constructed and in the ground to Lake Fork, Palestine, and I don't know where else. I heard they filled up the pipeline from Lake Palestine and the lake dropped three inches! That's a 26,000 acre impoundment!
corpus christ has a pipeline to lake texoma & they turn around & sell it to san antonio when the edwards aquifer runs low- go figger. oh yeah the 10 million dollar pipeline eventually cost 55 mil. plus a 3 year delay cause it ran right through a nesting ground for the (endangered in texas) prarie chicken- they had to do a study & reroute
Gawd! Wasn't T. Boone Pickins gonna buy up all the water rights in the Panhandle? Wonder where that all went.
Well, it's still raining here. They just issued a Flood Warning to the east of a line from St. Augustine down south to Mt. Vernon, 'till midnight. They'll probably extend it through tomorrow if it continues. Add to that the water coming down the Red from Texoma. Its got everyone up there scrambling. Just heard it on the news.
From what I hear, everything in the D/FW area is full. That goes for East Texas as well. I just heard on the news that Texoma is about to come over the spillway for only the third time in its history.
I keep telling myself that 'rain is good, don't complain. Don't complain.' But it's hard not to when you see gill's start to grow on your neck.
I actually see a little sun shine! After raining all day, it has finally stopped! I don't know for how long - haven't checked the radar in the last few hours - but I'm glad its stopped for the time being.
Check out the picture below! It is a half and half pic...taken from basically the same vantage point looking out on to Lake Tyler. One side is from basically the same time last year, the other is from yesterday. What a difference a year makes. Granted Lake Tyler is creek fed, and it isn't a flood control lake, but I've been on and around this lake my whole life and haven't seen this big of a swing in levels - 15 feet - in I can't remember when. Like I said - nothing like Whitney or Amisted, but big for this little municipal supply lake in East Texas.
