For a Great Special Treat take the Water with drippings and Smokey flavor put it in a bowl, serving saver, zip lock bag or whatever and freeze it.  The next hot day take it out and throw it in the back yard for the Dogs.  A Pupcicle is a Great Treat for a dog on a hot day.  They will Devour it in minutes.  (Or Less)

Same way with the rind on bacon; don't trim it off beforehand, leave it on the belly and trim it off afterwards.  If you don't use it for soup or beans, roll it up and tie a string around it and toss it to the dogs, they love it!

We've got to take care of our 4 legged friends too!

I made a failed attempt at treats yesterday. I had the skin from a whole pig that we smoked earlier, so the idea was to cut it into pieces and make something like smoked bully sticks from it.

The skin was already cooked, but I thought if I scraped off as much fat from the underside that I could, and laid them skin-side down, that they might roll up on their own. Well, after 8+ hours at temps from 200° to 240°, nothing much happened except they became greasy and brittle, more like dark brown tortilla chips. I ended up tossing them, as I wouldn't even serve them to a dog.

Wondered if anyone has a better idea how to make bully sticks?

I had not seen this before seems like a great idea but if you are using  a rub or salt I would think hard about it..
