Smoker repair question?

I was wondering if JB Weld would be safe and good enough to seal where my firebox meats the main chamber?

Only problem there is, I have a gap that gets bigger as it gets hot, so I would think it would just pull aprt from that sealer.

JB Weld does make a high heat epoxy you can find in almost any auto department. I found it around the gasket making kits.

IF the gap opens up more as it gets hotter ,why not use some angle iron or flashing to completly seal it. You could bolt or pop rivet it on .

Flexing once it heats up makes me think epoxy may not be strong enough to hold the patch. If it is getting that thin, perhaps taking it to a competent welder would be a better choice. The repair may cost a bit more, but if you like the smoker, this type of a repair will last much longer.

Believe it or not, smokers do wear out. Some are built heavy enough they will last several generations. But, they are the exception, not the rule.

My other thought is to put your "hunter-gatherer" hat on and begin stalking a replacement smoker. Doing all the homework and searching for the next "big" purchase is very enjoyable (to me anyway).

Make sure to use the regular jb weld not the quickset and you should be fine.

Make sure the area is clean and allow it to cure an extra day or 2 and it should work great.
