Smoked these two hunks of beef flesh Sunday as a treat for my sweetie of a wife who loves prime rib.
Just spritzed some olive oil on them & then hit them with kosher salt, fresh ground black pepper, & some garlic powder. In the smoker on the top rack for 2-1/2 hours at 225 with pecan & mesquite until the internal temp hit 130. Asparagus, baby sweet bell peppers, & baked potatoes on the grill & some sour dough bread. Never tried smoking prime rib steaks before & they turned out "real purty" as we say here in West Texas.

That looks like a great meal. Did you sear the steaks after you smoked them because you got some great color on them!

Yes I moved them to the grill for about 3 minutes on each side before resting them for about 10 minutes & digging in.

That looks Awesome Dwhite!!!

I would call them "Cowboy Steaks", which is a Thick Rib Steak with a handle.

Prime Rib is generally a Roast that is sliced into Steaks after it's cooked.

But no matter what it's called, yours look Mighty Tasty!!

Had the butcher at Albertsons Market Street cut these from a 4 bone prime rib in the butchers case. Didn't need a big prime rib roast for the wife & I. :icon_razz:

Excellent! I'm trying my hand at a prime rib roast tomorrow.... probably grill on low indirect heat with an ampts going beside it then sear it on high heat... we'll see, would hate to ruin a 60 dollar chunk of meat, but live and learn.

If it's a Roast, I would recommend Smoking it instead of grilling it. They're the easiest things I ever smoke, with the Best reward.

Here's one in a pan & one without:
