Today I decided it was time to tackle the RF plate. I have no way of putting a break in 1/4" thick material so I borrowed a buddies metal cutting saw (who borrowed it from work). I sawed a V in the plate a little over 1/2 way thru on the back side

It bent a lot easier this way. Hopefully you can see it in the picture

Now when I set it in there it slopes away from the FB and towards the center. I still need to drill a hole for the drain and put a lip on the end though
Just an observation, is that baffle plate going to fit in the CC in one piece?

Love those cooking racks !!!

Yep. Double checked first! (Wouldn't be the first time I've done something like that though lol). Like my miscalculation today. I ran out of room for ABT's with my 2 bacon wrapped pork loins

Perfect reason to build a bigger better one right?

I did my smokestack a little differently. I have (3) 6" ss pipes. A 26", a 31", and a 39" long.

I really want to polish one of these up and use one. I didn't want to weld the ss one right to the tank because I didn't think the transition from a painted tank to polished stack would be clean enough (yeah I know. Too picky).

So I took a piece of 6" sch 40 pipe (same OD but thicker wall so smaller ID). I turned down the end so the ss one would slide over the steel one.

I also thought I could kill 2 birds with one stone by changing length of stack to see which one works better? Just a thought.

I couldn't help but wonder how it flowed. I started a small fire just to see. I don't even have my door seal in and it didn't leak. Went out the stack like it's supposed to! Getting pretty excited now

Getting pretty close now. In the last couple days I've welded the RF plate in and got to work on the slides for the rack.

I used 1" x 1" angle for the rails. Here is how I welded them in so everything is level side to side and front to back. I clamped some flat stock on the bottom of the angle to keep it from twisting while tacking together.

I needed a way for the racks to keep from tipping when pulled out but still allow it to come all the way out. So I made these to hook on the angle iron rails.

Here they are in place

I'm thinking about adding them on the front of the rack too so I can just spin the whole rack around and put back in. Does anyone have any opinions on this? Is it even needed?

I'm trying to get good at tig welding. Please don't make fun. Lol

And finally here's the rack slid out

Thanks everyone for any input

Nice racks....   are the bars 3/8" and free floating ??  They sure do look nice..

Thanks Dave. The bars are 5/16". When I drilled the holes in the square tubing I only made the holes about .0005 oversize. Just enough so they slide in. Now when I welded the outside frame of it together they don't spin. My original plan was to weld all of them but I don't know if I will. I like the nice clean look of it!

Nice work. This continues to be an example of fine workmanship.

Thanks tjmitche. I appreciate it

So, the bars are drill rod ??  I should have guessed by the finish.....

I like the clean look also....   It looks awesome.....

Wow can't believe it's been this long since I've added to this! Just been making small pidley stuff. Brackets, handles, etc. will get pics of those soon.

I also had to loosen up my hinge holes on my doors. Doors got pretty stiff when heated. Funny what heat will do!

Also have been doing a lot of grinding. I just like the smooth look. I just might be getting way to anal about that too. Decided to grind off the factory weld on the tank

I also have a question. Because I can roll this around and not a level spot to be had at my place do you think it's worth having a small jack on each corner? I'm leaning towards it. I've seen them on trailer models. Something I can swivel down once in place. I just can't lift up one end and put a block under it like my little one! Lol

Having the smoker level is a good idea....   They work better.... meaning the same every time you fire it up...  Pour a small pad where you want to use it and have it level....

Well it's about time I start wrapping this project up. I really want to use it!!

I decided to redo my hinges. I added a small hump on there for a door stop so it doesn't fall all the way back. And in doing that I got an idea to drill a 1/2" hole and weld from the back side

A step drill worked great for that. Here is what it'll look like

I also made some handles. I found some ss tubing so I tapped a hole in a plug and welded one in each end. That way I can bolt it to the brackets. The brackets will be painted and tubing left polished. Should have a nice clean look to it

I made 2 handles. One for the door and another for the end opposite the FB so I can pull it around

Don't mind the bolts I used. It's what I had here. I plan on using some ss button heads.

I plan on welding those from the backside also keeping the nice clean look. I'm off to do that now!

Damm,   Nice work!

Such a difference between your own personal smoker and when you need to fabricate one for a client.

You have put some time into this project.

Thanks SmokinHawg!

Well today I finished up some of the smaller details. I wanted something to bolt the door clamps to. I made some simple little mounts

I drilled a hole in the center for welding

I also added a couple 3" round therms more for reference than anything else. I dont have any good pics. Just used a step drill to go thru the door and bolt them on
