Takin my mom and the wife up north Mothers Day weekend to do some shroom huntin. Mom's Polish and loves huntin shrooms and bowling. Not necessarily in that order. Do need some rain though.

I work with fungi all day, but unfortunately none of mine are edible. I hear morels can be found in NC, but have yet to find any myself.

A guy down the hall from me is a mycologist, and even he is wary of eating most of the native mushrooms here (his favorite joke is "I'm a mycologist, so I'm a real fun guy"). I've also heard "mycology is better than yours.

Anyway, there are probably about 2 around here that I would feel semi-comfortable enough to find and eat, but not give to my neighbor.

On this note, the "death angel" aminita mushroom is reputed to taste great before it kills you.

Am going out tomorrow for an early hunt!!! Have to get the smoker going by 10am so GOD willing it will happen. All I need is a 1/2 bag full,....makes a meal.

Thank you to all the SHroom hunters out there that continue the hunt!!! To be honest, if you dont harvest they will not come back!!! Now email me all you most godly spots!!!!

They've been out here in central Ohio for about a week or so now. Been eating them with fresh Crappie, venison steaks and BBQ. I also find them here in my backyard, what a break!
Grew up in northern Michigan about half way between Mesick and Grayling, little place called Lodi on Rte. 66, yep, ate my share in Michigan too. Most of the places we used to find them as kids are all gone now, shame.

Stumbled across them outside Pittsburg Kansas one day. Found 160 growing on the east side of a shaded hill . Lots of fallen trees and dead leaves. Ate 15 sold rest for 8.00 lb. Fried in butter was good as steak.

This morning there was rain in Central Missouri but a buddy and I went out anyway. I found 97 and he found 126. We weighed them together and had 10 1/2 lbs of shrooms!! Plan on cooking a several with steaks tonight, and may fry some tomorrow. They don't keep forever.
Hope everyone else has good luck too.

I usually hunt shrooms while huntn turkeys... this year Ive not seen any yet while in the woods... Hopefully I ll get out this week and get into some.... good luck guys
