I've been working away on mods to my RT340 Trailblazer. It has replaced my old Genesis and Masterbuilt bullet smoker. I loved it 'out-of-the-box', but I'm never happy until I've figured out a few improvements. Here's the list of mods to date:
Next up - bigger tires. It's longer, wider, and heavier than it was originally.
- Camp Chef sear box. I wanted to be able to do a quick sear on sous vide steaks, or just grill a couple salmon burgers. The sear box gets up to temperature really fast and is a perfect complement to the capabilities of the RT340.
- Thermal blanket. The RT340 struggled a bit and went through a lot of pellets any time it's below zero (and that's been more often than we'd like of late). The cover is made from a carbon fiber welding blanket and a piece of cotton fabric for an outer shell.
- Folding shelf. I discovered that stainless steel replacement grates for the Genesis Series E are just the right size to give me a folding shelf AND an extra internal grate. The folding shelf is made from a Genesis grate, a pair of stainless shelf brackets, and a couple of oak spacers to bring it to the right height.
- Extra internal grate. The second Genesis grate sits on supports 3 1/2" above the main grate, and gives me room for another layer of chicken parts or whatever when I'm smoking.
