Broke in Steve's board making

Zrazy Zawijane, aka Rouladen.

Meant to make this last weekend, but events got in the way..

Board is awesome for pounding meat.

Started with some "been rouladen" from the commissary, but the pieces were very irregular in shape, so had to go with what I had.

Standard recipe.

Pound thin, salt, pepper, mustard, bacon, onion and pickles. Used some of the ones I fermented this summer.

Anyway, they will be seared and slow cooked.

Having them with homemade sauerkraut and German potato dumplings from a box.

Pics of finished meal later.

That is great Bill, and nice how to pictures .
That is a great meal, and leftovers.

I should try and find the time to make this again, always a good meal for sure.

David
Thank you! Worth thr effort! Sauerbraten up next!

Those rouladen look delicious! I like how this dish combines simple ingredients into something really hearty. I bet the slow cooking makes the beef nice and tender while letting all the flavors blend together. Definitely something worth trying on the smoker next time!

Top notch Bill
This something my German heritage wife has not requested. Still trying to figure out why her Norwegian heritage husband (me) is supposed to make German foods

Evening all - new member here, and this thread stopped me mid-scroll. Bill, those zrazy look brilliant; using the pickles you fermented this summer is a lovely touch, and going with red cabbage for authenticity was the right call. I'm with indaswamp - I'd never heard of zrazy zawijane before tonight, and it's straight onto my to-cook list.

My only contribution to the table is a groaner: that beef is really on a roll.

Full disclosure: I run a little puns site called Laughtypuns,

Thanks again for the inspiration! Tried a version of these tonight! Coupled it with a packaged latke mix, sauerkraut (with some borscht mixed in). Mighty fine. New to me. I love the interesting recipes I encounter on this site!

Ready for the roll. Diced dills, onion and bacon with a slathering of stone ground mustard.

Tasty on the plate paired with a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale!
