Greetings!

Looking to see some opinions here. I am in the market for a new grill/smoker hoping to get something that is a bit 'all-in-one'. Knowing that all in one style has limitations on each end of the spectrum my research has led me to have a high interest in the Rec Tec line of Pellet Grills. The price point of the grills, for me, is in the territory of 'it's an investment' so I want to make sure I am completely sold on this endeavor. So, now to the actual question.....

Those of you that have the 590, do you wish you splurged for the 700 or are you completely satisfied with the 590? Knowing the difference is about $300, but the warranty being 2 more years I am struggling to pick. Probably too far into it, but if you divide the cost of unit by years in warranty, the 700 comes out to be cheaper per year if you only have it during warranty period.

Please send help. There are so many options and questions......

One thing to consider for these things is the total cost of ownership. If you use the grill a lot, you can easily spend $300/year on pellets. Over the lifetime of the grill, the extra $300 you might spend for the 700 isn't that much of a deal compared to the total cost, assuming you can afford it now.

Makes sense, bregent. I don't see myself using it a ton, but typing that makes me think the 590 is probably big enough for a family of 3.

The bull is only 6" wider than the 590. Not sure of your location, but the "only" reason I wished I had the Bull was for the simple fact of a winter cover for cold weather smokes ( ND ). I have not figured out what I'm going to do this year for trying to cover with the 3 exhaust vents on the backside. It worked ok last winter but trying to avoid the extra pellet use. Definitely big enough for family of 3.
Hope that helps a bit. . .

I am usually cooking for two so the 590 works well for me. I saved $300 on a bull and don't need to buy the pellets to heat up what I won't use. I use a modified welder blanket for cold weather if needed. It is not polished, but very effective. Retain in place with magnets.

Winterrider Winterrider thanks, this helps a lot. Winters in southern california aren't too bothersome for smokers in my area. I am sure we have a bit of a different definition of cold.

ken g ken g , looks like it works. the money saved on pellet consumption to keep it hot seems to be a recurring theme from what I have seen.

Thanks for the feedback.

I went all in on the 700. never regretted it. You cant have too much space, but you can run out. I went from an 14" SWM to the 700 and I fill it all the time. jerky and wings take up a ton of space. I also like to cook alot at once and vac seal for later. No size limit on briskets, hell I did two the last time. have friends over 4+ racks of ribs etc. Having room and not being cramped is great. Winter cover is priceless - we get a TON of snow here.

Well sandyut sandyut , your response timing was impeccable. I literally just hit submit on a grill, cover, pellets, and mesh mats and came here to say I bought one. Went all in on the RT-700 as well. I am stuck somewhere between giddy and holy s* I just spent how much on all this?

I am sure I will be ecstatic when it is all here, but definitely crying a little right now. Almost feel it needs a home in the garage, not the backyard.

buy once cry once! you will love it! I am very nervous about my buy as well. wife was not all in...tentatively supportive i would say. after the first cook - we were both stoked!

Cover works good - mine sits in snow all winter with no problem, just brush off the snow and fire it up!

Faarg Faarg NICE! it may seem big or bigger...till you fill it. then you will smile and know why you went big. if you need rec tec customer service - they are best of the best. they have a video about adjusting the auger speed...after you get used to using your bull its worth watching. especially if you live somewhere warm. Enjoy and post up some cooks!

Thanks. I just got my shipping notice so it should hopefully be here soon. And I'm already figuring out the best way to load it up.

Faarg Faarg , I feel like we are on a smoking roller coaster ride together. Just got my tracking number this morning. Congrats on purchase.

Same to you. Can't wait until it arrives. I'm not gonna lie -- I've clicked the tracking link 6 times already and it still hasn't updated. And I've watched the assembly video twice.

They called me today to schedule a delivery on Tuesday. I then checked the tracking and realized that it's now sitting about 5 miles from my house. I'm tempted to call back and see if I can pick it up from UPS directly -- it would be a waste to have to use my MES for Memorial Day weekend.

You must be a bit closer to them than I am. haha.
