My kids love HuHot but it's gotten so darn expensive. Luckily, dad knows a thing or two about cooking and we have the biggest griddle CharGriller offers. Got a beef rump roast on sale and sliced it thin on the meat slicer, made a buffet style setup of ingredients and sauces, and had them make their own concoction just like at HuHot.

Was pretty damn close and cost less than $20 for the family of 4 tonight.

The plate looks good! And if it keeps the kids happy, that's a plus.

They do not have a HuHot in California. I have not been a fan of the assemble your ingredients and we'll cook it for you system, only because the food seldom comes out tasting like I imagine it would while I'm putting it together, which is on me.......

I get it, I hated HuHot for the longest time for the same reason, the combinations I put together just never tasted the way I envisioned. Took a while but stumbled on a damn fine combo:
(in 2 bowls)
Sliced beef
Lo mein noodles
Onion
Potatoes
Black beans
Then for sauces, in each bowl 5 ladels on Burn Your Village Barbecue, 2 ladels of garlic oil, 1 ladel of Khan's Revenge. Finish with some crushed red pepper when done. 🤌

That looks great! I like the flavors, color and looks pretty easy to throw together?

I never heard of HuHot...googled, there are a couple kinda far from us, but would like to give it a rip one day. thanks for the recipe and tip on this place.

Looks great, never heard of the place but we have one of those all you can eat Chinese places close, it includes a Mongolian grill and sushi bar. I like going sometimes but at my age I can't seem to get my money worth at a place like that anymore.

I really enjoy a trip to Fogo de Chow but it's a drive and $100 a plate.

I've never asked my wife (nor has she asked) if we want to do Mongolian grill at home.
We tried HuHot twice (2 locations) and both repulsed us due to the filthy carpet and resulting smell. Why they have carpet from the area where people selected their ingredients and spilled them while moving to the grill area is beyond me.
The closest HuHot to us closed shortly after opening. They couldn't compete with the well established Chinese Buffet that has a traditional Mongolian grill and also sushi on the cold bar.

Talking expensive... The previous HuHot location converted into one of those grievously expensive fresh salad experiences. Who in their left mind spends $20 for a salad?

Wow. I thought it sucked when our Mongolian grill / buffet went to $15 a plate. I get my monies worth as they have little neck steamers in the hot line. I eat more than $15 worth of clams before I come up for air.

I had to look up HuHot to find out what it is. Well if I ever want to visit one I have to get on a plane or take a 10 hour car ride!

I've never eaten Huhot, closest restaurant is over 500 miles away, or any other Mongolian cuisine, but we love Asian foods. May just have to give this a try...

We used to have a chain out here called Chang's Mongolian Grill. Man, those were good! They all went by the wayside years ago. Still miss those places. These days, I can still make a reasonable stir fry in my hexclad wok.

Looks great! And a good idea!
We have a HUHUT, an hour away we really enjoy... maybe a couple times a year. Have a buddy that goes with us, mostly bald and removes his hat while eating... not sure what he uses but his entire head breaks out with sweat beads!

One place I worked in Portland, OR a large group of us would regularly go eat Thai food at a place called Bangkok Kitchen. We would form teams, and the team that collectively consumed the most "stars" (i.e. heat) would win a Buddha statue. We wore sweat bands, sweated out of our ears, and I swear I could feel my head crinkling up! I love Thai food but sweating through a meal isn't real appealing anymore, but we were young and it was fun competition.

When we lived in a Seattle suburb I would stop at a fantastic Thai restaurant. Usual take out was Pad Thai and Curry chicken.
Thai owner said we loved it way hotter than his taste. I thought it was mildly spicy.
