I've been searching high and low for a good Mandoline to make Waffle Fries. Pretty much every one I'm finding gets pretty bad reviews, the only one that people are liking is the Broner Wave-Waffle Cutter XXL Powerline. I've been checking for it weekly for 2 months but it's always out of stock. They have a model that does thinner ones that are too thin for a good thick cut waffle fry. There are countless Mandolines out there, not a ton that do waffle cuts, but there are some and I'm thinking there has to be one I'm overlooking that works well here.

Been wanting a Mandolin for a long time and hate to buy over the net, had a cheap 1 years ago, like to put my hands on 1 and being able to buy replaceable blades would be a bonus, every thing gets dull after a certain amount of use. I will be watching this thread to see where you end up lol , we don't eat many fries but nice to have that option

This is the one I have. Has been a good unit.

Have you ever made Waffle Fries on it? I've found 5 or 6 reviews that specificly mention the Waffle feature, and they all make it out to be borderline bad when it comes to Waffle Fries. 2 mentioned you can't adjust the thickness for them and they come out way too thin. I own the cubing Mandoline from PL8 and I love it, but it doesn't do Waffle cut.

I have, and you can adjust the thickness ( 3 settings). It is maybe little over 1/8" at the thickest. Tough to measure.

Thank you for the info, don't know what the reviewers were complaining about then. Hummm, I don't even have an idea how thick a typical fast food waffle fry is, but that last pic definitely looks thick to me. This is from an Amazon question, PL8 customer service is who answered it.

Q: Can it cut thick waffle fries like chick a filet fries?
A: Hi there! The waffle cut setting uses the #1 slicing thickness which is 1mm. Only this setting thickness will work properly for the waffle cut.

And 1 review says " Good product, but really disappointed in the waffle cut. There is only one thickness setting for waffle cut and it is paper thin. Definitely not good for fry making, as they are way too tiny."

I'm confused because your last pic it's definitely way thicker than 1mm. Amazon has a good return policy maybe I should just risk it and give it a shot.

We use the thick setting and like them like that. I take reviews like that with a grain of salt. They maybe don't understand the other settings.

I don't always of course, but when the manufacture replies directly to someone asking about it and tells them it only has 1 thin setting for Waffle. I guess that means PL8 doesn't understand their own product lol.

Good to know I'll be ordering one soon thanks for the feedback.

The Thickness of Waffle Fries is dictated by the thickness of the Wavy Blade, not the size of the Gap.
A Wavy blade that is only 2 to 3mm Peak to Valley, will only cut waffle fries with holes in 1 to 2mm thick potato slices. Anything thicker will be Wavy Cut but No Waffle Holes. The Wavy Blades to do fast food and frozen Waffle Fries are likely in the 7 to 8mm, Peak to Valley, range...JJ

Now I understand how it works with how explained it to me thank you! Looking at the pics Winterrider posted the blade wouldn't be wavy enough to make Chick Fil A clones. Looks like I'd be best off to wait for the Borner Wave-Waffle Cutter XXL Powerline to be back in stock. I'm not sure about the thickness of the blade, but the video I saw his fries looked great. As far as other brands, none of them have any specs like that to look up so I'd just be guessing. Here's the video, watching it a 2nd time he said exactly what you did about the ridge size, not sure how I missed it lol.

I 'm glad JJ stepped in. I guess we are just doing wavy. Sorry, didn't mean to lead you down a bum road , my apologies.

My Mom had a hand heald Wavy Cutter. Used it for Crinkle Fries once and tossed it in the junk drawer. It was not sharp and was slow to use. Enjoy your cutter when you get it...JJ
