My computer went mute on me a few days ago and I can't seem to figure it out. Any thing that is supposed to have sound on it.......doesn't!!!! Haven't tried my Skype to see if that has sound or not, but will when my son gets close to his computer. Anybody have any ideas???

Laptop or desktop? Which version of Windows are you using?

If desktop, be sure your speakers are plugged all the way in if they have a plug. Pull the plug(s) and put them back in to be sure.

Win 7- go to start, control panel, hardware and sound (probably similar steps on other Windows but I don't have the XP up right now and THE GAME is about to start lol). You can open the sound area up and troubleshoot.

Hopefully that will solve you. If not, if you have headphones try them and do you have sound?

Well, could you give some information regarding the computer?

What Operating system (XP...Vista...etc)?

What recent changes have you made to the machine?

have you made sure that the sound isn't muted? Can you hear a movie or music played from the optical drive but not web based things like youtube?

Did the speakers come unplugged or are they muted?

Ok, this may seem unlikely, but it did happen to me. My son was listening to music on my computer and left his headphones plugged in the back, which you know, cuts the main speakers off. For the life of me, I couldn't figure it out, no sound. I asked who was using the computer. He told me he was. His headphones plugged into the comp in the back and you could not see it. Those little bug style headphones, all rolled up and tucked away out of sight LOL.

Don't know if this is your problem But i have had a sound card go out and this is the problem it caused.

All better!!! I did a restore back to a date I knew the sound worked. Just a few days. Now I am wondering if that will effect anything I had done on the computer since that date forward to today. I have a love/hate relationship with this confounded thing!!!
