Propane Price Gouging

For many years of owning this house I had oil heat. I locked into a couple of contracts that worked out good for me but when I retired I did some upgrades to the house and oil heat was out the door and natural gas was put in. Other then the expence of a new furnice I am very happy I did. Much cleaner heat and no smell. When they removed the old furnice you would not believe the carbon dirt from it.
Last year from Jan 1st 2025- Jan1st 2026 my total cost to heat my house and hot water was $963.93. If I was still on oil it would have been 3 times that amount.

What is the distance from where the truck can safely back up without backing over septic septic system? Our propane trucks can reach quite a long ways with their hose.

Filling the tank where it is currently located isn't a problem at all.

The problem is that Suburban Propane owns the tank.
If I switch propane suppliers then Suburban wants their tank back.
Therein lies the problem.

When this tank was installed, there was no road to the south of the house.
Then they added a "sub division" behind our house and added a road and a drainage ditch. So the easy way to remove this tank no longer exists because the truck can't go through the ditch. (it's too deep and too steep)

Well, I can't find anything suitable to move this propane tank with.

So, I'll just have to watch my usage and deal with it.

Thanks for listening.

Guessing you have a concrete septic tank... I hear some have gone to plastic. But I would think if you could hire someone with a decent sized skidloader with a lift capacity enough to be able to lift the tank and some wood planks to distribute the weight over a wider area would work without causing an issue. Especially if there is still frost in the ground.
As far as tanks go, advertise for used propane tanks. Around here a new 1,000 gallon tank is $4,400 brand new. I bought four, 500 gallon tanks last year. The most expensive one was $1200. And yes, some need new valves and what not but I needed one for my daughter's house we moved, one was needed for a generator. The other two I'll add one to the house and one to the shop to have 1,000 gallons of storage... or 80% of that anyways.
Hope you can get something figured out!

You don't really have to move that tank you could just add another. They have a device that will allow them to both be hooked up and switch automatically when one tank runs out and show which it's using I believe
