Well after seeing Solaryellows Plywood smoker and someone elses on here and a dscussion with Pineywoods and Solaryellow last night I decided I was gonna build me a Propane Powered Plywood smoker for my sausage and jerky smoking....

Went down to Lowes early and pickup what i thought i needed.

Started around noon today as i was smoking some ribs and chicken as well...

Got the Lang (Smoke Wagon) rolling along so i bit ito the Plywood project...

2' x 2' by 8 foot tall. I went 8 thinking i would have a better range to move the meat up if needed away from my burner..

Made a wide base with casters to move this thing around and to add some stability..Its not as top heavy as I would ahve thought.. Added a 2x10 vent at the bottom and another at the top but on the opposite side. Got eveything done except for adding the propane burner. The one I ahve is no good so i gotta replace it and buy a new one for the cooker...Anyway heres the pics..im gonna add some more dowels later on..Hope You like it..any ideas on the height being an issue?????????????

This was my little helper who was caught eating saw dust at the moment and was gagging on it....

Looking Great So Far...

Looks great nice job it shouldn't take much more and we should see some thin blue rolling out of it!!

I've been all over the place on how I want to build mine. I can get an SS commercial refrigerator cheap, but it's huge! I'm now thinking cement board, lined with stainless inside, and finished in that thin stone veneer on the outside. It'll be heavy as heck, but I'll weld up an angle iron base with casters to handle it.

Great job so far!

You might want to consider using some aluminum flashing and line at least the lower half. Wood flash point is about 350 to 400 degrees, and less with croesote buildup. Yep I would line it.

You are quite the busy beaver aren't you there Chris. It looks good and I cann't wait to see the Thin Blue Smoke a rolling out of it.

thats pretty cool. i sure would like to have something like that for sticks and sausage. those items dont fit well in any smoker ive ever used. might be a spring project.

Well I Fired her up today and wa totally impressed. I ran the temps up to 190 and right back down to 85 with hardly no effort. i ran a little mesquite smok through it just to try it all out and it went very nice. I was worried that I would have a hot spot at the bottom area since it would be closer to the heat so when I built this one I made it 8 foot and I cut the legs off of my burner so its only about 14 inches to the top of teh fire which gives me roughly 4 foot from heat to meat...Well its not an issue, I ran two probe 1 all the way at teh top and one 3 feet from the bottom and the temps were the same....Got Bacon in her to rest for the night and will smoke it in the morning...Post picsof it in action tommorrow

Glad to hear its working good and am looking forward to some Qview of it in action tomorrow

Great looking cabinet! I like the smaller door at the bottom to tend to the fire without losing heat.

Someone mentioned insulation. What would you insulate these with?

Kurt

Nothing...Im not insulating mine..I use a propane burner and dont think I will need it. The purpose in mine is cold smoking so nothing over 170

Nice build. Been thinking along these lines since I saw MarkSmiths plywood version. Did you build it with specific shelves in mind or will you just lay the shelves on the dowels? I want to smoke some jerky and eventually move into snack stix and sausages. My GOSM is just too hot for that. Looks like this will fill the bill quite nicely.

Im just gonna lay the trays on the dowels......It worked great for the bacon...Temps were as high or low as I wanted with no issues whatsoever
