I have a 22 wsm without the silicon grommet
Without drilling holes , how and were do you route your prob wires?
The manufactures video ( pitmaster) shows going into the bottom vent! Seems to me too hot to pass the wires by the lit coals..

I'm definitely no expert, but under the lid seems like a good method.

Although I do now own a wsm, I have a similar problem with the SRG.  What I do to make me feel good about precautions is to wrap the cable with aluminum foil so the lid does not pinch the wire

You can buy the silicone grommet. I have installed one on my WSM and all of my mini-WSM's. You can get the part online via ereplacement parts. I have a couple thread here on the mod. All you have to do is drill a 1 1/4" hole.

If you don't want to go that route run the wires through the top vent.
