So the wife and I went to pick up some Italian specialties at a local "Tuscany". (Pork store here in nj)
So . The women in front of me ordered a pound of pulled pork., it was $7.99 a pound!! Wow that's almost what I paid for a 9 lb butt!!!

Even at Christmas, pork butts are $1.27 at my neighborhood supermarket. Most of the year they are around $1.00 a pound. To say that smoking and pulling multiplies the value by a factor of ~7, is just charging what the market will bear. I smoke and pull my own. I can't say that my time has value because I am retired. My smoker is paid for and I buy a dozen 2-packs of charcoal at Memorial Day sales. The cost of the briquettes and the match to light them are my only expenses. If I were to sell it, I'd want at least $5.00 a pound; but I usually give away about half of what I smoke.

Something to be said about ready to eat!! I buy100 lb. for $3.50 for events but if I go buy a quart its $11.00 at local Amish Market where I buy it. SOOoooooooooooo something said for home cooked. Yepper

The local bbq joints here are close in price for brisket, pork, chicken or sausage.  I know brisket costs me the most to buy, I figured that the bbq joint's costs are what they are and the cut of meat isn't the deciding factor.

I think that's a reasonable price @ 7.99 pound.
How much would you charge if you was smoking and selling pulled pork?
8 hour cook fuel & supplies, what are you worth an hour?
To make it worthwhile I would think you would need to move a lot of pork.
