I always am looking for a new BBQ Sauce. Been playing around with this one. The original was a bit too hot for us. I lowered the cayenne and added some molasses to balance the heat. Want more heat? Just adjust the cayenne. Also went with dried ingredients vs fresh shallots and garlic. Next batch I plan to add some cumin.

BBQ Sauce #5 - Pinot Mine

Prep Time: 5 mins Cook Time: 20 mins
Source: vindulge.com but modified

INGREDIENTS

1
cup ketchup
1/4 cup molasses
1 tbs dijon mustard
1 tbs Worcestershire
1 tbs apple cider vinegar
2 tbs brown sugar
1 tbs chili powder
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon dry mustard
1 cup Pinot Noir wine, (or sub with Cabernet)
1-2 tsp shallot dried flakes
1/2 tsp garlic powder

You can substitute with:
1
tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
cup diced shallots, (approximately 2 shallots)
2 peeled garlic cloves, finely diced

DIRECTIONS
Into the saucepan on medium add the chili powder, cayenne pepper and dry mustard and stir constantly, for one minute. Turn heat to high, add the Pinot Noir. Bring the wine to a boil then reduce heat to simmer for about 5 to 7 minute, stirring occasionally. Wine should reduce by about 1/4 to intensify its flavory.

Add ketchup and simmer while stirring for about 15 minutes. Remove and let cool then place in a container.
