Been meaning to try a grilled pizza for some time...never got to it. Yesterday was THE day. Made a batch of been tried before 'good' crust and got all the goods laid out. Pepperoni, motz, onion and a diced poblano chili from the garden. Started the Kingsford Competition coals as usual & put the stone on cold.Things went pretty well, unit got up somewhere 450 and I heard a 'pop' from the stone cracking......LOL....I slid the pie on it anyway, still on the pan, to set up some and continued the mission. I got some definite overcooked char on the bottom in some spots but the dough itself was pretty tasty. I went out to put the dome back on the grill and upon my return realized about half the pie was already gone. I took the best money shot I could get under the circumstances....LOL. From my understanding this is the way it's done. I guess I got it to hot but the pizza was pretty tasty stuff...except for the char.......Willie

Looks good! i can never seem to get my cheese that flat on the pie and actually stay in place when i bite into it
Well, this of course was the usual shredded motz but I've read where some will use cubed cheese that melts into a small circle...might help or possibly worth a try
 
Looks really good!  I have "heard" that the "stones" will crack with temps above 450*.....Love my pampered chef one...and don't want to loose it on the Weber.

Looks great Chef WIllie! I know several people that have had that happen. I know that Weber makes a stone that is supposed to work without breaking. Google this:

Lodge also makes a cast iron pizza pan that makes a good pie.

Good to know for me too.  Went to Academy yesterday and saw a really nice cast iron one made by Outdoor Gourmet.  Put it back on the shelf...when I read it was made in China.  Sorry...would rather have the Lodge brand...it's USA made and doesn't have "metals" in it that are not good ones.

Will Check out the Weber one.

I did see that!  Still in research mode....it does look cool!  I am a stickler for USA made Cast Iron...cant help that.  Don't want icky things in the food.  BUT....was just looking at the Weber CI griddle...the round one.  Can't find out where that is made.  Gotta dig more.

Hey...great info everybody. The Lodge cast iron one sounds awesome....will have to Bing for a price. And will be looking into the Red Sky offering....Willie
