Just brought my brothers older Pit Boss home over the weekend. New to the pellet game as I still have a Primo XL. I'm used to good ol hickory wood. My question is are there any known issues from using 100% hickory or any other 100% pellet?

I used to use 100% pecan pellets. They were ok, but were a very underwhelming smoke flavor over all. So I use BBQs delight mix now and enjoy it much more.

The only way I know of to get 100% anything is to cut it yourself.
Once it's pelleted who knows what is really in there?
It's not like the USDA is watching the pellet factories.
Most are Blends. Regardless of what it sez on the bag.

Should have no problem at all smoking 100% hickory. Sonny was correct, the labels can be misleading. Most of the cheaper pellets (Pitboss, Traeger, etc) use a blend that may be only 30% hickory or flavor wood. Most of the better pellets (BBQer Delight, LumberJack, etc) make pellets that are 100% of the wood shown on the bag., though of course they are more expensive. That said, they also make blends so you really need to read the label. 100% hardwood hickory is not the same as 100% hickory.

Regardless, try different brands and types till you find what you like.

Yeah I noticed that about most everything here local is all blends. I see rural king has lumber jack in the 100% hickory for $8.99 20#bag. To me that's a much better deal. I like a lot of smoke so I bought a stick smoker as well. Hoping to get some more hickory flavor out of the 100%.
