Pellet Grill Cooking

I'm new to the whole pellet smoker thing. I have a Char Griller pellet grill and it works great for smoking, but I was hoping to replace my charcoal grill with this pellet grill. If you watch the infomercials, these things can do it all. After more than an hour the temp was still only 310 F. Can anyone offer some assistance?
