Went to this KCBS (emphasis on BS) contest yesterday and it was the most disjointed set up I have ever seen. There seemed to be no organization to this event and they had vendors there selling everything from shaved ice - with the same song playing over and over on his outside speakers to a vendor selling African food- not smoked
.
One of the high points of the day was meeting Aaron from MeatInc - we had his poppers and they were the best thing we ate at this event. Very tasty and tender! Congrats man. Looks like everyone was enjoying them.
We tasted several other items from vendors and were not impressed at all. Some of the food should not been served as it was cold. Dont think the KCBS folks did any checking at all. We tried some sausage and ended up tossing in the trash they were so bad, I think they may have been overcooked and dried out. One booth was serving Moinks. These must have been prepared somewhere there was a lot of propane - you could really taste the propane in the meat. Tried several burnt ends and at best they were just OK - At 3 PM no one had any ribs left that we could find.
The highlight of the day was meeting Richoso and Gloria at the contest. We spent a little time there with them and they came back to the house with us for dinner and a nice evening. What great folks they are. If you ever get the chance to spend any time with them you really need to take advantage of it.
