Did a five day horse pack trip into the Bob Marshall Wilderness last week. Great fishing, wonderful scenery. I got a new horse that performed very well. 4 year old roan QH gelding. I packed the horse that broke my wrists last year, and one of my black mules. Thought I would share a little bit of our heaven with you. Grilled some rib steaks and some T bones over coal from the fire. They were fantastic, course the scenery and mountains had something to to with it. The pack bridge is over the North Fork of the Sun River. I probably caught 50-60 fish each day I fished. The pass is Headquarters pass which sits below Rocky Mountain, the highest mountain in the wilderness.

My dad worked in the Bob Marshall as a kid for the Forest service. My uncle Stocky was deeply involved with much that happened in the 'BOB' and in the Missions. Ive done several backpacking trips in my life time in the Bob Marshall and find the area to be magical. Thanks for the pics, Im jealous. Being a Flathead Indidan, I find mself in that part of the country often and
truley find it to be home and like no other area in the states. Kudos to you and your new horse. I want to go next time!! Ill cook!!

Nice trip...I always enjoy getting out into the thick of it in the mountains! Lots of things to see, and things to watch out for, but always a memorable experience.

That reminds me of a 2-day back-pack trip I went on, solo, back in 1994 (woah, 15 yrs?) in the Bridger Teton Wilderness area, N/E of Dubois (I think), WY. A guy that was going to make the trip with me backed out the day before...didn't stop me though. I took a 93# external-frame pack (ouch) from 6,000 ft at the trail head to 10,200 feet at the lake...I think it's called Little Divide Lake. It was about 12.4 miles round trip...wish I would have had a week to do it in...wore me out big time, but with my trusty 9-1/2' fly rod in hand, the trout fishing and scenery made it all worthwhile...even with all the fresh bear sign closeby to keep me aware...man that was great!

Thanks for the trip back in time!

Eric
