It was announced here in Pennsylvania that the state stores were closing at 9:00 PM today until this Coronavirus issue is over.

I went out this morning to stock up on the Platinum 7X Vodka for my evening martinis to ward off this terrible virus. . I had to go to two different state stores (in Pennsylvania liquor for home consumption can only be bought in dedicated state stores) and needless to say not only was it complete pandemonium but there was none to be found. I had to settle for the cheap stuff. . .Nickolai!

I am impressed with and proud of the American drinking public.

Cheers,

John

Yeah, I stood in line for 35 mins yesterday. No social distancing there.

It will get a lot worse before it begins to get any better, we were always relatively prepared so didn't have to hoard anything. I feel sorry for those who thought it was a hoax and made jokes and are not prepared, there is nothing funny about this and it won't be going away anytime soon. It may reach everyone one way or another, God help us all. RAY

I agree but please dont turn this into one of them threads. We have enough of them. This is a easy going post.

pc farmer pc farmer . Are the state run stores all the alcohol? Or just liquor? We can buy beers about anywhere here in Ohio and cold too. I know indiana does not sell cold beer except at there state liquor stores. We have liquor stores seperate but nothing run buy the state. And drive through carryouts......drive in..buy cold beer or whatever else up to a certain % of alcohol....drive out... Pretty darn convenient! I didnt know when ive been to other states that you couldnt get beers at a "drive through" ...asked a few people and they just looked at me like I was crazy! Lol!

I went to the store Sunday afternoon, was about out of whiskey...oh no! Local grocery store, not state thank goodness the way it sounds. But was kinda sad...they had full packers for $2.99 /lb. They never have them that cheap. Freezers are full, not from stocking up, they are always full it seems. Have four deer hides in one freezer that need to be tanned so I guess no cheap brisket for me

State stores have all the liquor. Just now getting stores with beer in them, grocery stores and gas stations. We have drive though beer distributers. Sowsage Sowsage

Okay, my story has NOTHING to do with lines or social distancing, but it does have to do with state control of liquor. I don't know if the politics have changed since this happened decades ago, but I captured a memory that has stuck with me through the years.

I was dating a girl from the mountains northeast of Phoenix, AZ. I rode into town on my motorcycle, stopped at her place, then we went to the grocery store to buy stuff for dinner.

First thing I noticed were all the folks wearing guns around town and in the store. "Oh, this is an open carry state," she said as we pushed the cart to get groceries. At one point we passed a fifteen to twenty foot square room where the liquor was all kept behind a rotating gate entrance. Next to the entrance was an "L" shaped counter. It was open, no bulletproof glass or fence. One side of the counter faced out into the store. The other side of the counter faced into the liquor room where the patrons paid for their liquor.

I watched guys and gals walk up to the counter facing the store, hand the clerk their guns and holsters, walk through the rotating gate, buy their liquor, walk out through the gate, get handed their liquor and gun, then keep on shopping. Trust me, I understood what was happening, but the irony of the sales process cracked me up.

Thanks pc farmer pc farmer for the explanation. Though we don't have anything like that, we can buy liquor and beer anywhere. We do however have drive through daiquiri shops where a 'closed container' is considered to be a foam cup with a lid and a straw that has the top of the wrapper still on.

My local state store was utter chaos yesterday. But on the plus side we ordered a case of wine from a local winery and it arrived today. And the beer stores in PA are still open, just doing curbside to go orders.

Here in Wyoming we have drive up windows on the liquor stores. You can purchase beer, wine or hard alcohol. It was only about 5 years ago that you could drive up and order a mixed drink to go, but that has since ended.

State closing many businesses today.
Stopped at package store (beer, wine, and liquor) today. They posted sign they are open regular hours. (beer) Distributor was delivering and said they will deliver. Other shelves appeared full. Didn't check to see if the whine (pun intended) stock was depleted.

Washington state when I lived there (20 years ago) was beer and wine everywhere 24/7, but liquor was only at state run stores with limited hours.

We don't have state stores in Indiana. Cold beer can only be gotten at a "liquor" store but hard liquor can be gotten at any grocery.

A few days ago I said I had enough whiskey for a month. I decided I was being too optimistic. Luckily the grocery store here had plenty of whiskey and most of other needed stuff.
