Gonna be in Overland Park KS next week for some training. Any good Q near 435 & Metcalf? I see that Jack Stack's is over there, but that looks too commercial for my taste. What about Hayward's?

Also, it looks like Fireplace & Bar-BQ Center‎ is going to be just down the road. Is it worth my time, just to look around (not really looking to buy anything, but you never know).

isn't it funny that oklahoma joes is in kansas not oklahoma.....huh...

I don't care what it's called... Their Q is awesome.

And "Kansas Joe's" just doesn't sound right... Hehehe

I think it is named after their first smoker (an Oklahoma Joe). Whatever it is called, it is good and a lot of titles and trophies behind them. (Although I am not too keen on their side dishes - they need Dutch's recipe for beans in my opinion).

They've got great fries, and their chicken gumbo is really good. But I have to agree on their beans, Dutch's are MUCH better.

Yea, I've heard great things about them on TV, but you never know what reality is. I may try them. It's about 6 miles from where I'll be, but will have to see how much lunch time I get.

Oklahoma Joe's is probably the best in the area. You'll definitely have to stop by Smoke n Fire. They've got all kinds of "goodies and gadgets" for Qing. It's on the northwest corner of 69 Hwy and 151st street. If you're their on the weekends they've got a full kitchen and they bring in Q guys from all over and have free samples!

OK, guys, good call. OK Joe's was off the hook! I had the Rib and Brisket dinner. The brisket was nothing to write home to momma about, but the ribs were some of the best I've ever had. Out of this world. The funny thing is, they serve spares and they don't trim them STL style (KC folks have a problem with STL...go figure). STL style is usually the only way I'll eat spares. But, these were perfectly cooked from the rib meat to the brisket tips. All with a nice crust. The bones were loose off of the meat, but they weren't steamed to mush.

The only problem is, I didn't have time to sit down because I had to stand in line for 20 minutes, and I had to get back to my class. So, eating ribs in the car while driving 50 MPH down 119th street wasn't fun....but will probably do it again tomorrow!

Thanks again.
