Texas
I'll be in the Kansas City area for a little bit (Rosedale area, but I have a car and the city doesn't seem too big compared to Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio). Oh I'll be making a trip out near Topeka soon as well so, if anything there makes sense that is cool too.
Rather than trust random internet searches I figured I would come to all of you for the REAL info hahahaha.

So, what are some AMAZING Kansas City BBQ spots that I should consider checking out???
Also if there is anything specific at these places or in general for KC BBQ I should be searching out let me know.

Let me know your thoughts, and thanks! :D

I'll ask my friend that lives there. I know there is an old hole in the wall place that has excellent BBQ.

If you like fried chicken gizzards, Go Chicken Go is a Kansas City Icon....best damn fried gizzards I have ever had. I get them every time I drive up to visit.

Awesome! These suggestions are what I was hoping for hahaha!
I'll put Slaps at the top of the list.

Oooh I'm tempted on the chicken gizzards as well. I'm keto so the fried gizzards might be a no go BUT if I can find something else there I wouldn't mind getting some gizzards to eat a few each day during the week to not hurt anything :D

While doing a tiny bit of searchign online, I heard "Gates BBQ" mentioned a number of times. That was going to be my fallback plan if I got little to know responses. I may still hit up Gates as well BUT when I looked, it didn't seem too impressive and almost seemed a little bit like Dickey's or Spring Creek bbq joints in TX.
Those places are ok for popping in to grab a lunch while on the go or at work but definitely not "amazing" BBQ destinations hahhaa.

My friend said Both Gates and Arthur Bryant are large volume places more for tourists....Slaps and LC's is real small hole in the wall BBQ. Slaps cooks for the day and they sell out every day....

😂. I live 5 blocks from Go Chicken Go. It Is Good!

Also, if you want fantastic BBQ and are going to be in the Rosedale area you absolutely have to check out Joe's KC at 47st and Mission Rd. You will be just too close to not go there. I've lived in KC now for twenty years and have found none better. None! Warning, be prepared to stand in line, and by the way, its a gas station.😆

Aurthur bryants and gates are hyped by media that doesn't know good que if it smacked them in the head, skip em. I tried LCs when I was there this past week but it was closed and padlocked. Que39, Slaps, Joes KC, Jack Stack are my favs there. Suggestion on JKC, order it to go and pick it up. Beats standing in line. My brother lives half mile from the original gas station one on 47th.

I have lived in Kansas City my whole life and you have been getting some good advice. Slaps is the real deal. Excellent. Q39 has excellent brisket, but it is kind of upscale. Not everyone’s cup of tea. Gates is ok, but as someone said, it’s a bigger chain. Joe’s KC is also very good. Everyone loves the Z Man sandwich.

Oh, and Go Chicken Go gizzards are the bomb too!

And Go Chicken Go is the bomb! Best gizzards on the planet!!!

What about Plowboy's ? I love their Plowboy's Yardbird rub and I've heard their barbecue joint is good also ?

Mrs Okie wants to travel to KC in August. Her main interest is quilts but I want to sample the barbecue. And we both want to hit Boulevard Brewing .

Thanks! I'll have to put it on the list, especially if it's that close :D

Thanks for the info, especially on calling in the order to Joe's KC!

Thanks for the info! I don't mind sitting at a slightly upper scale place, especially if it gets to be like a treat for the girlfriend and I to enjoy a little bit of nicer atmosphere. Most good BBQ already has prices like food at moderately upscale places so may as well enjoy a little environment as well hahahaha :D

Yeah I'll skip Gates. My source was.... reddit. Reddit is like the bane of my existence hahahaha. Like 85% of the time you get no actual answer from it with people just making stupid comments. 10% of the time you get bad information and 5% of the time you get something that might be useful hahahaha.
I always roll my eyes when the top results of a google search is with results from reddit hahahah :D
