Long story and lots of pictures Then my try at making one I loved. With a little sauce/glaze I made from a bottle of Pepper Jelly from Justin Rafter H BBQ Rafter H BBQ

We went away for Christmas , and in the area we were at there was a couple spots that were called " Food truck heaven " and the big one called " World Food Trucks " The later one was just across from Old Town . We stayed in walking distance off to the side of Old Town, love it there. Walking around these makes you want to try everything. ( but they are not cheap. The one I tried was a full plate for me and $ 17.00. BUT it was so worth it more on that in a bit )

Also the other one was up by the Giant Orange at the flea market area. That is where I found the one I tried first.

There were so many to choose from, almost any kind of food. 90% of the menus were in Spanish. My fault for not knowing enough to know exactly what it was . So had to rely on the pictures . They tried to explain as best they could to me . Lots of samples and fantastic flavours. ( but for a dish of 8 chicken wings and fries $ 18.00 OMG )

here is the truck I could not resist, the smell of the large grill on the back of the truck, grilling big chunks of beef on big skewers was fantastic thought I took a picture, On the side of the truck I saw what I thought would be a sub with meat called " Pepito ", found a rough translation Sandwich. so that worked for me. Well it was huge and filled with lots of the Q,ed grilled beef cut when ordered. Served on i am thinking sliced cabbage and onions etc, with a cool dressing. They did not understand when I asked what it was . The whole sandwich was well worth the price as the ladies helped me eat the beef.

1.jpg 2.jpg

I know it looks messy but I had to open to see what i was in for , it was a great meal in a bun

3.jpg

Ok now back home and wanted another one of those " Pepito's " so pulled out a pork roast and sliced it up for a couple slabs for the ladies supper and cut some strips for my sub . Coated in some lemon herb rub and their slabs into some soya sauce, into the fridge. for couple hours.
Onto BBQ with some smoke rolling , and made a glaze from the Wild Huckleberry Pepper Jelly that Justin Rafter H BBQ Rafter H BBQ sent me last year with a couple other things ( thank you again Justin ).

8.jpg 9.jpg 10.jpg

Ladies waned backed potatoes with their chops, I did up some grilled veg for the sandwich also. The strips were cook with a nice char and then into a pan on the grill to keep warm in with the glaze

11.jpg 12.jpg

So here is my take, It was good and lots of flavours, added the veg and some cool ranch dressing. It was good but not the same , next time will use beef and a nice brazing sauce . But this is a keeper also.

Nice story, thanks for sharing. I’d hit that sub pretty hard for sure, nice work. Next you will have to try that with Picanha which is just top sirloin.

Thanks Eric for the like and the comment
Was a nice sandwich, and will be doing more.

Never used Picanha before. Will look into it, I am going for a big beef run this week coming and see what I can get in the line of cuts I have not tried yet.

Nice looking sammich!!! We have a lot of food trucks around here and there are a few that are worth the money, but for the most part the prices are sky high (sez the guy paying $7 for a beer at a brew pub)

Thanks Chris for the like and the comment

We have lots in many areas , like 1 here or 2 way over there , but the ones in florida were like 25 and more in each location. Like big food courts.
There is a Jamaican 1 around here that has good island food and a not too bad Jerk Chicken.

That is about normal for price of inside brewery beer , draught is cheaper. take home even cheaper

Food trucks are few and far between up here. Your take on that sammy looks just about perfect to me. Nicely done David

Point for sure

Know the area well and go to Old Town for some of the car shows.
We even stayed at Barefoot Resort a few years back.
We have never stopped at those food trucks or any of the flea markets.

Your rendition looks great.

Don't feel bad David, I have to look up some of it to even after 4 years of wintering down here.
For a lot of the food there is no simple translation from Spanish to English.
And just when one gets a handle on the words, you find it is slightly different for each country of origin.

David where is Old Town that you reference?
The actual town of Old Town is over on US Hwy 19 north of Chiefland, west of Gainesville and I haven't seen anything like in your pics around there.
Food looks good that sandwich would make several meals for me lol

This Old Town is off US 192 in NW Kissimmee Osceola County.
I haven't learned the origin of Old Town as the original downtown of Kissimmee is miles away and those folks don't have anything kind to say about the mouse.

OK thanks John that makes sense over that way they seem to think they can take over anything they want. I would guess that "Old Town" is just another tourist attraction. I try avoiding that whole area lol

Your "meat sandwich" looks tasty David.

LA is known for having lots of food trucks. The better ones will have lines since their foods can be better than a restaurant. You won't find them in a group area like that too often. You just have to know where to go and there will be a long line of them on a certain street.

Before I retired I would stop at a certain one once a week and get the best grilled shrimp wrap ever.

It was very nice , but next time it will be grilled / smoked beef , that is probably the flavour that was missing. But still very good.

Same up here , there are a few trucks around , some that stay in one spot , buy others you have to look up where they might be . I noticed a new one around called " old school donuts " I have to track it down as I hear the desserts are great.

Thanks about my make on the sandwich, was very nice.

As for Old Town , like going there for the atmosphere and some of the shops. I have been going there when ever in Florida. Almost always stay close by so I can just walk over anytime.
We don't do the parks anymore .... the crowds and cost is just stupid.

But this time for the first time went to Gatorland , I was impressed .

We love Barefoot'n resort. Stayed there 3 times now, Mona loves it as just outside our window ( we try to get the same room each time ) There were always 10 -12 deer , even slept there at night. And a gator in the pond right there also. Mona and her mom fed them everyday. Even the gator

nice pool area, pond right next to the pool, with Allie in it and the deer on the grass behind that

This picture of the deer at midnight through our screened window, 9 deer sleeping

Gator maybe about 4 to 5 feet long, little guy, They called her Allie ( women ?? ) lol

It was a very tasty sandwich for sure.
For many years around here there was really only 1 main food truck and he parked downtown Halifax by the library . Sold french fries mostly, it was called Bud the Spud, and the line ups were long. He is still around after 35+ years, and there are others now also selling lots of things . You have to look for them as they move around.
