Only 5 million more to fall from the tree and I will be done for this year. 😕

What are they ?
flowering crabapples
If it was not for the nice spring time flowers on the tree I would have cut it down for fire wood years ago. Was going to cut it last year and my 19 year old son said but dad it has a special place in my heart as my tree fort was up that tree so I gave in and gave the tree another chance but it just might disappear one day LOL

That is a bunch of crabapples.
If only you could find a use for them.
Well you could make wine from them or moonshine but I'm not into wine making and the cops kind of frown on the moonshine part LOL

That's where I would go. A little hard cider. Or go really crazy & turn the cider into ice wine.
You could also probably trade it all to a pig farmer as is.

I read somewhere that crabapples are really just very small apples. I also read people will splice larger apple variety branches to the established "crabapple" trees and get super results. I have two down back that price apples the size of golf balls but man they are delicious! I made killer applesauce out of them one year.

Where I live there must be around 10 different varieties of crabapples. From very small to the size of golf balls. I have one in the front yard that produces yellow sized gold ball crabapples.
This year there seems to be lots of berries of all kinds and lots of apples of all kinds. The native people will say its going to be a very long and cold winter as nature takes care of the animals and makes sure they have lots to eat during that time.
I sure hope not.

I will gladly trade the gumball tree in my backyard for your crabapple tree. Unlike crabapple those damn gum balls have no redeeming qualities.

When my grandparents lived on a farm in a valley of the Appalachian mountains, they had several crabapple trees behind the house that my uncles used as bait...uh...food for the wild animals.

Yes I have people that hunt deer and have taken the apples for bait but they are not interested in them until it winter when nothing else is around. Think because they are sour the deer don't really like them. We have no bears in the village but I'm sure they would eat them but they prefer berries and this year there are tons of them. Going to be some very fat black bears going to bed this fall. LOL

Cleaning the under carriage of a riding lawnmower, that is the only use for them I know.......or launching from a small diameter potato cannon.....allegedly of course.....

Them suckers come out from under my push mower like a rocket sometimes. That and for no good reason I never built a spud gun. Maybe I will just to launch gum balls

I took out the last of my apple trees due to fire blight.
Best thing I did as the deer no longer stop in the backyard to check for apples and skip into the garden for a snack

I had a great Aunt that had a real nice couple Crab apple trees , they only grew about the size of Cherry's.
The trees I see now the apples are about the size of a round egg.

She would pick a couple big bags for me and let me know when ready for me to drive out and visit and get her offerings , as long as she received a few bottles, lol.
I have a great recipe for pickled crab apples, and they are fantastic.
She has long passed away, and so has the access to the trees for me. Miss her.

Decided to try my hand at crab apple jelly. Watched a few youtube videos and decided on the easiest one.
Just came out of the canner pot.
Looks good so far.
That was one ice cream bucket full of crab apples.
Used my electric juicer on the crabs
If it works out I will make more.
