We recently received a gift card for Omaha Steaks. I ordered some steaks and the came in yesterday. Only problem the dry ice had melted and the steaks had thawed out. They still felt pretty cold to the touch so I put them in the freezer and called Omaha Steaks and they are sending me a new order. My question is as they still felt cold to the touch and had good color do you think they will still be good to put on the grill?

This is what I did some years ago in a similar situation with Omaha Steaks...Defrost in the Refer ONLY then give a good inspection. If the seals are good, intact and no puffing, cut the steaks open. There will be a bit of meaty funk, this is Aged Beef, but that should dissipate in a minute or so. Give a sniff, the Nose Knows. If they smell nasty, toss them. If they smell like Meat, give a quick rinse, they are intact muscle, dry well with paper towel, season and have at it. This type of occurance is not uncommon and Omaha Steaks would be remiss if they did not take steps to maintain exceptional sanitary conditions in handling and packaging. It is unlikely they spoiled since they were still cold but as a further precaution, only healthy adults should eat these. No kids under 5 and not a good idea to serve for Grandpa's 90th Birthday Dinner...JJ

Great advice from Chef JJ  as usual
