Tried Starbucks - Way too bitter for my taste. I don't think that I am a snob, or an aficionado, but I do know what I like.
back in 2011, I discovered this then small company from upstate NY called Death Wish Coffee Company - They claimed to be the worlds strongest coffee. Well, being former USMC, and have had my share of strong coffee, I had to give this a try.
For me - it did not disappoint. It allowed me to smell the color 9 without problems. The first time I drank it before heading to work, I was making record time getting there and then I realized I had forgotten my car at home......
Smooth, yet strong - provides a kick in the butt no matter how I make it ( Drip / Kuereg / French Press )

A friend I worked with years ago got me hooked on Death Wish coffee. Its got a TON of caffeine but a mellow taste. I also like Black Rifle coffee. There are a couple of roasters local to me that I like also.

Jim

I'm gonna have to learn more about this Death Wish coffee for sure - may have to find and try it. I like my coffee strong - as long as it's still smooth - don't care for bitter.

Today I grind my own every morning fresh and do direct pour at home, either with a Chemex or a Hario. My coffee brand is Mayorga.

I may eventually end up with a pour over setup myself - but I've got too much invested in my drip machine now to stop using it lol. Tell me more about Mayorga - haven't heard of it before. I went to their website, and they've got several medium roast beans that sound good...which is your favorite?

I grind my own beans in a conical burr grinder. I was on a coffee subscription from Counter Culture for awhile, good coffee but it was too much of a hassle to change bags and then the past few times they never shipped my order…so it was a perfect time to cancel and try new roasters.

My tastes change thoughout the year. I’m currently going through some Stumptown Roasters Holler Mountain, I’ve been digging the Ethopian beans lately.

Conical burr grinder is the only way to go! I haven't tried any of those subscription services - might be a good way to try lots of different blends.

I'll look up those Stumptown Roasters Holler Mountain beans. The Southern Weather I've been gettng from Onyx Coffee Lab are a blend of Ethiopian and Columbian beans.

Hard for me to get my day started unless I’ve had a cup of hot black coffee, but I keep it pretty simple. I usually go with something from the grocery store - currently favoring Peet’s. I use a burr grinder and brew with a Moccamaster, which brews in a range of 196°-205°.

I’ve found that the water used in the brewing process can make as much difference as the coffee itself, so I use distilled water.

I am easy, I make my iced coffee every morning in the usual drip Cuisinart system. Use pre-ground flavored coffee and then still add sugar free caramel creamer.....yeah I know way different than most of you. Then again I like my tuna steaks cooked white all the way through...lol.

I have heard the bunn coffee maker makes a better cup and faster, will look into them when a new one is needed.

Red,
I get it at Kroger now here. But they do have a website to order. They are based out of New York State.

The thing I really like about the Bunn is it heats the water in the reservoir than lets it go. You have to have tall filters but I buy them by the 1000 for pretty cheap.

First, to all you enablers out there... I don't need any of this stuff mentioned here, but JLeonard JLeonard definitely does! :emoji_blush:
I didn't like coffee at all till after my 1st year in college, told my girlfriend, now wife... I'm gonna acquire the taste of coffee, wanted something to get me going in the morning. Her 1st comment... want cream or sugar? Heck no! Gonna acquire the taste for straight black coffee. And that's how I drink it still today. Folgers, through a Bunn coffee pot. The only flavored coffee I ever liked was called Chocolate Velvet... used to buy the beans in 5 lb bags... and of course they stopped selling them.

Reminds me of a time some older friends of ours were given some coffee beans at a rendezvous... husband kept asking the wife if coffee was ready yet... been on the fire for forever! Yep, you guessed it... she had just dumped the whole beans into the pot!

black and strong. RAY
Reminded me of a buddy. When ordering coffee he would say loudly so others could hear. "I like my coffee like I like my women: hot and black". LOL

Rocking a Keurig now (Starbucks Sumatra) but have played with espresso (Gaggia Classic) and like french press now and then. If at a cafe my go to is an Americano/double shot latte depending on the mood. Used a Bunn a long time. All coffee machines need maintenance now and then. Bunns come with a tool to use to unclog it and fixed the leak issue.

On vacation in VA Beach went to REALLY nice place and had probably the best I ever had. They roast their own beans, weigh with scale, organic milk, etc. Took the dude like 10m to make mine. Work of art.

My drip machine is a Moccamaster too - the Technivorm KBT. I was looking for a drip machine that had the right temp range and drip speed...and this one was among the most recommended. I really like the coffee it brews!

And I agree 100% about water quality. We don't use distilled, but do use a good water filter.

Thanks Jim...I'll look them up!

Hmm... if done right with fresh beans and a proper grind the morning Latte is by far my favorite time of the day. At least until it becomes cocktail time :emoji_laughing: Over the years (now 69) I've settled on a less work intensive approach to get to that Latte. Can't say its just a good but enough so that I remain pleased each morning. Drop the favorite capsule into the Nespresso and while it does its thing, put some good milk in the frother. Done, and enjoy.

Hey buddy, nice thread! The fam and I love coffee and try different roasts when we can! One of our favs is a local roasted brand! I will also say that during our exchange this last Christmas, JLeonard JLeonard sent some tasty coffee that was local to him!

In the early 2000's Bunn had a recall on these . The lid switch was catching fire and burning houses down . I had mine registered , and they sent parts , or I would have never known about it . When I took it apart the wiring was melted and the switch was charred . I replaced the parts , but never trusted it again and tossed it in the trash .
I wasn't going to bring it up , but since people are talking about older equipment and Bunn coffee makers I'll just put it out there for FYI .
I think the dates were 2005 through 2009 .
