I ended up pulling the trigger on a REC TEC RT700. Hopefully the wait isn’t too awful, I’d like to be able to BBQ some stuff for mother’s day. I happened to go to the outdoor section of WalMart and saw a Pit Boss 700 for $400. Made me want to cry a little bit, but I’m hoping the REC TEC doesn’t make me feel like I overspent.

Hello, I posted a few days ago on getting the PB 700 FB you mentioned from Walmart. It is being delivered this Friday. I will post back on my experiences with it once I get it built and running. From what I've read in these forums, people seem to really like the REC-TEC models.

The Pit Boss seemed pretty nice, so if the REC TEC is all it’s cracked up to be, I will be impressed. I did buy 60 pounds of their pellets for about $25, so that’s a plus.

I bought my first pellet grill about three years ago. I did a lot of research on the $1000-$1500ish brands. It came down to the yoder and Blazn Grill works. I ended up purchasing the Blazn which was about $1600 delivered. It cam with the custom color hood and insulated door.

After looking at the new REC TEC bull, I think I may have gone with that model. Seems like a lot of value for $1200. I also like the stainless steel design on the cook area.

I think I still like my PID controller better, but I don't think it's worth and extra $400+.

The stainless steel sets it apart IMO. Should last a long time. No worry about paint peel or rust.

The Pit Boss is fine but the RT700 is a step above.

They both turn out good tasting food but the materials/construction on the RT are superior. That along with the warranty is ultimately what you are paying the extra $$ for.

Hey Killa - I don't have a Rec Tec. I was considering a Rec Tec when I was researching smokers. I ended up going with another brand that I felt was a good value. I don't think you will be disappointed with your purchase. I am a big fan of “buy once, cry once”. Be sure to post some pics after you get your smoker up and running.

I don't think you will be disappointed either, I don't own a pellet grill, but there are a lot of good things said about the Rec-Tec on here. Let us know what you think when you get it & be sure to take some photo's of your maiden run!

I doubt that I’ll be disappointed, but I definitely spent more than I planned. Here’s how I talked myself up from buying a $170 electric smoker and a $300 gas grill to a $1200 pellet grill:

Step 1) If I get an electric smoker and a gas grill, I’ll cook a lot more than using my charcoal smoker
Step 2) The $170 smoker is probably junk, so I really need to look at better ones
Step 3) The Smokin-It 3D is perfect
Step 4) I’d really need the Smokin-It 3.5D to smoke as much as I want, but I still need a grill
Step 5) Electric smokers suck
Step 6) Gravity fed charcoal smoker would be perfect!
Step 7) Looks at prices of gravity fed charcoal smokers
Step 8) REC TEC Stampede is perfect
Step 9) I can’t wait that long - Camp Chef Woodwind
Step 10) Camp Chef Woodwind isn’t big enough, maybe the SGX plus the sear box
Step 11) REC TEC Bull is perfect
