Hi All!

I just purchased my first smoker, a GOSM propane smoker. I have been reading alot of your posts about smoking various kinds of meat, and I am very excited about getting started. I plan on starting with pork ribs and a 6 lb. pork butt. Any tips or special techniques you veterans have for a wannabe meat smoker? One question I have is, the wood chip box is kinda small, will it be big enough to smoke the pork butt and how many times do you think I will need to fill it?

Smokin' em here in North Dakota!
Thanks!

Filling the smoke box repeatedly is more or less a matter of taste. you may have to experiment with it. Some people say that you should reload 3 times for the best smoke flavor without overpowering the other flavors. But, like I said before, its a matter of taste. You'll have to figure out how much smoke you like.

Welcome to the forums BTW, you've found the best place on the net for smoking info.

Welcome to SMF. I have a different smoker but I know a lot of people with a GOSM who replace the smoke box with something larger like a cake pan or a cut down coffee can.; or you could just refill the box more often when the wood is burnt down to ash.

Welcome to the Forum!! Congrats on your new smoker. Be sure to season it before actually smoking food in it or the results may be less than tasty. Didja get it @ WalMart? Smoke on!
