Sherrill NY
I’ve been looking to get a smoker and try it for myself. I grill constantly on my Weber propane grill. I love brisket, ribs. Pulled pork and want to make my own.
I came hear to gain knowledge. I’m at a toss up between electric and propane. Let alone the different brands. What’s good what’s junk. Reading reviews online is scary for sure. Those say everything is bad but that’s probably skewed mostly to people who did have issues.
Enough of my rambling and a big Thank You for having me. I’m off to read...

Welcome from central PA. Sorry I’ve only ever used off set smokers, never used a pellet or electric smoker so I can’t help you out in your decision. There is lots of good people and info on this sight so I’m sure you will find the info and help you are looking for.

welcome to the forum, keep reading the threads and you will find a smoker that you may like.

Welcome from Buffalo,NY. In our area I would suggest a unit with Thicker steel or an all out insulated wall unit. The cheap units will drive you crazy with temperature swings. Depending on your volume needs an electric insulated unit that can be used in a well vented garage will get you going through our type of climate.
The Masterbuilt units are vary popular.

A Masterbuilt Electric Smoker unit is probably the best value to get you started, not very expensive ($200 - $300 or higher, depending on the model - https://www.masterbuilt.com/collections/smokers) and should last you 2-3 years, until you find something better. I just bought a Camp Chef PG24 DLX pellet grill/smoker for $650, which is nice for my wife and I, we don't need much!
