New guy here!

Been lurking for weeks, reading, researching & soaking up as much as possible.  I'm from Louisiana, and have been hooked on smoking meats since the moment I was given an old hand-me-down off set from my dad.

I initially found this forum for cooking tips and techniques, etc. to help me from one cookout to the next.  I had no real desire to get a new smoker, until now.

While the old smoker has been great, it's been a struggle to say the least.  Constantly tinkering with ways to control heat and temps caused my family to get me a new smoker for Christmas.  I'm not the kind of person to turn up my nose when it comes to gift giving (thought that counts, right?), but when my new Kingsford Sierra was presented, it was hard.  Real Hard.  But I did my due diligence, seasoned, modified, sealed and started cooking with it.  And, I hate it.  With a passion.  So I started looking, shopping, researching for a new smoker.  Still haven't made up my mind, but I did find a used Lang, 36" patio model. I know what the new ones sell for, and never really envisioned owning one until today.  I'm making a road trip to MS tomorrow, and if what I am seeing in the pics is what I find when I get there...it will be mine!!

I'll keep y'all posted.  Thanks for the time, and looking forward to whats to come...

So, by Jahri Evans' (yes, a 73Saint) timeline as described above and his silence today, he's either fell in love and is sleeping with his new Lang, or it turned out to be a dud and the walk of shame is in play.  I sure hope it's all of the former, and none of the latter.  You out there, 73?

I hope so too, thanks! We had to reschedule but are leaving in the morning. However, I just learned that it's actually one of the 1/8" stainless models. That's a little concerning to me. One of the initial things that drew me to the Langs was the 1/4" steel. Now I'm reading that they made these ss models for a while. I've looked for any threads on specific feedback from the stainless models. I haven't seen anything saying to avoid them. If they hold temps properly, for my needs, it may be ok.

I'm going to do some more digging today, maybe call Ben and try and get some feedback on how those older models are holding up.

I'll keep y'all posted. Thanks very much for all the input and feedback. It's greatly appreciated!

I was fortunate enough to talk to Ben this morning about the Lang 1/8" SS models.  He called it an "ultralight" and answered every question I had and then some.  What a pleasure it was speaking with him, I'm very appreciative that he took the time to talk with me about what I am looking at.

Bottom line is I know a lot more now, and while I really like the idea of having a current model, this one is still leaps and bounds over what I have used in the past.  We shall see.
