New smoker in Northern Minnesota

Good evening all

I am new to smoking and excited and a bit tepid about beginning!

I am a 32 year old located just outside of Duluth, MN.  My wife surprised me with a Smoke Hollow #5 propane smoker for Christmas.  I was immediately excited about the idea of smoking meat and quickly found this forum.  I decided to wait until spring to fire it up so i didn't have to battle our cold temperatures as a beginner.  I have since purchased and played around with a Maverick ET-733 thermometer based on recommendations from your site.  I plan to season my smoker this weekend, and try a basic smoke.  (probably chicken or something)

I deer hunt, fish and pheasant/grouse hunt, so I would enjoy trying to smoke some birds, and want to get into making my own venison sticks and summer sausage.  I have easy access to Lake Trout as well, and I hear that they smoke up nicely.  I've never had brisket or anything along those lines, but I am sure to try my hand there as well

I look forward to learning some of the trade!

Glad you joined the group. The search bar at the top of any page is your best friend.
About anything you wanna know about smoking/grilling/curing/brining/cutting or slicing
and the list goes on has probably been posted. Remember to post a QVIEW of your smokes.
We are all smoke junkies here and we have to get our fix. If you have questions
Post it and you will probably get 10 replies with 11 different answers. That is
because their are so many different ways to make great Q...

I'm new here as well and haven't been smoking more than a couple years. I found that I had to force myself outside my comfort zone at times. I kept smoking the same meats over and over. I took a class at a local bbq store and gained more confidence. Sites like this one gave me some great ideas and made me a better smoker. Always good to broaden your own smoke ring!
