I recently moved and before I did I sold my OKJ Offset stick burner. While I loved using it and it produced great food the non insulated firebox and chamber made for to much babysitting and management. Once we got settled in the new house I ordered the Masterbuilt 1050XL gravity smoker and could not be happier. The first test smoke was with ribs so in the even I had issues I would not be wasting a lot of expensive meet. The other nice thing is there a great butcher right down the street that always has lots of meet and good prices. They had competition cut spare ribs which looked great and save me the time of trimming and removing silver skin. Attached are a pic of the smoker and the results. My wife thinks these might have been the best tasting ribs I have done.

Looks good. Had I known about that smoker before I bought my Rec Tec I would of gave that smoker some thought. Charcoal cheaper than pellets and better smoke flavor.

Welcome from Iowa! Nice smoker and great looking ribs!

Has anyone had any issues with the timer always flashing when the smoker is on?

Once I get it going my 560 display will flash back and forth from actual temp to set temp all night long. My 560 is a little testy at startup. If it doesn't sense the heat from the charcoal being lit it does goofy stuff. Like shutting the fan off and displaying error messages. Charcoal isn't plug and play like gas, electric, or pellets. Playing around with charcoal briquittes and/or lump further adds to the confusion to the 560 controller. It's an awsome smoker but there is a little bit of a learning curve to it.

The combination of the charcoal flavor mixed with wood is nice. Very happy with my 560.

Congrats on the new smoker, and the good looking ribs. That smoker is developing a pretty strong fan base. All the good reviews have got me thnking that i need new smoker.
