Hey all,
New forum member, here. I've been smoking on a WSM for the last 12 or so years (mostly ribs, with some brisket and pork butts), and have had great results, although there's always more to learn.
I read Aaron Franklin's book and started getting the itch to try stick burning. And I am starting to need more cooking capacity that the old 18" WSM has.
So, I've been on the lookout for a used stick burner and just got a used OKJ Highlander for $175 to play with and learn on. The guy had it for around a year, cooked on it a few times, and then got a Traeger pellet burner. He kept it under a cover, so the smoker looks brand new from the outside. A little soot on the inside, but you can still see most of the metal walls on the inside.
I'm about to get its seams welded by a welder who lives down the street. I'll have him make me a baffle and an expanded metal charcoal basket, too.
Once the mods are done, I'm looking forward to firing it up.
