My xhar griller firebox came in today and I'm anxious to put my 2 butts on tomorrow. I tried to smoke in the grill with heat on one side but the temp was too high. Any advice will be appreciated...do y'all soak it or rub it the night before?
 
I can't help with your smoker, but I welcome you from across your northern border. I normally rub my pork butts right before I put them in my smoker.

One from Smithville the other from Alexandria. I've been roaming around up there all my life! In fact my grandaddy ran funeral home in Alexandria and a lot about f his funeral buddies had a big BBQ once and I had BBQ buffalo meat!
