Looking for a charcoal smoker in the 400-700$ range. Preferably a cabinet type. Have been looking online for options but can't seem to find any that arnt home depot or Lowe's brands. I'm sure those ones are decent but I wanted to come to the experts to make a smart first purchase to get into smoking.

The main thing I want to be able to do is use my own wood chunks as I work for a tree removal company and always have access to different kinds of wood.

Probably mainly be smoking ribs, brisket, pork shoulder/butt and chicken

I don't know of any insulated vertical cabinets that are in that price range brand new, but that doesn't mean they aren't out there. Most run in the $2000-ish range new.

Get a Weber Smokey Mountain 22.5 inch. $400 brand can smoke anything on them use any kind of wood /charcoal combination you like. I have even started using mine as a cold smoker for beef jerky. I can fit a whole packer brisket or many racks of ribs at a time on it so size is great for what you need. You can get some accessories and mods if you are so inclined (like gaskets or lid hinges) there are temp controllers that fit it well (like BBQ gurus and the like) its pretty portable too. Its hard to find a WSM owner that doesn't love their smoker.

    just my two cents...

    Happy Smoking,

I think a bunch of people use chunks in quite a few of the smokers designed for chips.

The dyna glo vertical smokers might be a bit small. The offset dyna glo and dyna glo wide look cool.. bigger. But you have to treat it kinda like a stick burner . Fuss with cooking chamber a bit. They all need some lite modification work. 1 vote for 22" WSM here.

Tree service? You could burn 100% wood.

    Check this out..
  8. I was looking at the Broil King chest smoker. I have a Broil King gas BBQ that's great. I ended up with the Weber 18" smoky mountain. There just seemed to be more reviews and how-to videos.
