Hi Gang!

I know I have been MIA for a while, but have had a injured FurBaby, so had to delay getting my new Smoker.

Hubby is going to attempt to get it for me in December.

SO, I need  advice on things like which Brand of Thermometers for the lid, and what you would call the rope insulation for around the doors.

I have found 2 packs of the Thermometers for the lid but not sure which brand is better, and how long should the Probe be??  I have found different lenghts of probes, anywhere from 2 1/2 all the way to 6 inch!

I have found these:

or this one

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BBQ-GRILL-S...155435?hash=item1c6e739f2b:g:CjIAAOSwMgdXySk1

or this is a 3 pack

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-3-F-...545099?hash=item565757954b:g:ho4AAMXQaOVRkeI3

Replace all 3???

Is this the Permatex Gasket I need? or the Red Stuff??

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Permatex-59...ash=item1e9422764f:g:vNMAAOSwkZhWTpeU&vxp=mtr

Is this the type of rope gasket I need?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pellet-Wood...4b4ac4d&pid=100009&rk=1&rkt=1&sd=262059636996

ot is this ok?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Meecos-Bron...896598c&pid=100005&rk=5&rkt=6&sd=142026446731

These gaskets say they are Fiberglass, is that ok around food?

I know I am asking a lot, but all of a sudden I have questions as to which I should order!

Help pretty please!

I would advise to skip mounting therms on lid.  I did that, and wish I hadn't,  I would suggest buying some remote thermometers like Maverick (two probe)  Buy 2 of them.  Use one for grill temps side to side, use other one for meat temp.  Or get one of those kinds with 4 probes. (can't remember the name)

The Red stuff rated to 600*  Or Copper colored,  rated to 1000*

I bought white stove rope at local hardware.  I think I used either 1/2 or 3/4 inch.  I think it was 1/2" though,  My channel was 1/2" aluminium, so I'm pretty sure I used 1/2" rope.

These gaskets say they are Fiberglass, is that ok around food?

As they are woven into rope, and do not move around a lot to release any fibers, yes they are safe to use in channels for sealing.  I did use Red RTV to seal the loose ends of rope, just for that reason.

Here is a link to my basic modshttp://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/145402/sealing-a-char-griller-smoking-pro/20#post_1062344

I have since wished I had never drilled holes tor lid therms!  I pushed drier vent stack up a bit, to where it is now 3 or 4 inches above grate.  It been three years and the same piece of 3" drier vent is still on.  Did not attach with screws.  Just crimped it around the stack.  Still working just fine.

Hmmmmn..... New smoker/grill delivered in December in UTAH?!!!   Your hubby is sadistic!   LOL

But this can be a good thing.

Take your time, assembling and modding your unit over the winter, then when spring arrives you will be ready.

Please do not go overboard with mods.  Take the time to think them though, and do research.  You have all winter, so take your time, and never jump to a mod based on just a few posts.

MY CG sat in our living room for 3 months (don't have garage to work in) un-assembled, while I sat looked at it, researched SWF and other sites, and thought some more.  I made my plans, but waited until it was warm enough to take pieces outside and give them several thin coats of high temp black spray paint.  Very careful to spray them lightly 3 days in a row.  Don't rush it.

Wipe parts off with alcohol and let dry before next spraying.

The only thing I screwed up was drilling hole for therm's.  I would not do that again.

I had the time to make the ash drawer fit better and not bind, and other stuff like that.
