Mrs Bear’s Gardens

I don’t think I ever showed all these, but they look so nice from all the rain we’ve had, I figured nobody would mind.

I’ll just add my comments above each Picture.

You might find that last pic interesting:
I searched Bird Feeder hangers all over the Internet, and none within a reasonable price was strong enough to support a 5 pound Raccoon, let alone a 20 pound Raccoon.

So I got the bright idea to try a 1” Adjustable Flag Pole Bracket. It holds a 3/4” ID Steel Water Pipe, and the bracket can be adjusted in any one of 9 position angles. It really works great. The first position I tried was up pretty high, but that made it closer to the railing, so a Coon could sit on the railing & grab the bottom of the feeder, and pull it in to himself, without triggering the feeder hole closure springs, and carefully eat all he wanted. So I moved it down one click, which made it a little lower, but also pushed it out farther. I didn’t want to move it any farther out, because that would make it too hard for Mrs Bear to reach, if she has to fill them. It’s been a few weeks at that position, and no Coon has been able to get any seeds, and the squirrels have totally given up!!! So far so good!!

Hope you enjoy my Pics,

Bear

Mrs Bear's Bird Garden. Bear Jr made that fence 13 years ago out of Red Cedar.
It's holding up really good:

I love that stuff . All mine looks great this year from the weather like you said .
Nice Hosta garden . Eastern Blue bird houses ?

nice bear, yeah with all the rain everything is so green, how do you keep the deer off the hostas, my wife has a bunch of them and the deer love them, unfortunately the state frowns on shooting them this time of year.

Very Nice. at least you are only worried about raccoons, my parents in North Eastern Poconos have black bear climbing on their deck eating from the bird feeders.

Looks great Bear! sometimes it’s hard to get the grass cut in between all the rain. It makes me wish for the days the grass starts getting brown and not the two mowings a week until early October.

I have a black bear that rips up my garbage pretty regularly that I started keeping the cans in my basement and putting them out on trash day. If I put them out the night before, they are surely going to be ripped apart. I got sick of picking up strewn garbage at 4:30 in the morning.

Here he is hiding in the tree after I caught him in the act and shoo’ed him away.

Yeah my parents had one rip the screen open and he helped himself to the garbage inside the house. They came home to a mess and paw prints on the front door, now they close the ground floor screens when they leave. The community they live in requires them to drop the trash off at a compactor, no driveway pick up.

Thank You Jim!!
She said she uses a Deer Repellant "Pellet" that she gets at WallyWorld. She just sprinkles them around the Hostas.
She's been using them a few years now, and so far they're working.
She still thinks they'll start eating the Hostas any day now. "Paranoid".

I tried a lot of things with my Leyland Cypress Trees (Buck Rubs), but so far the only thing that seemed to work was last Fall I put blocks of "Irish Spring" on the ends of strings, and draped them over the 7' trees. It worked so far. I'm going to try that again this Fall.
And Thanks for the Like.

thanks bear, yeah those bucks love rubbing my fruit trees I ended up putting fence around them, those rutting bucks do a lot of damage. I use the liquid deer fence on the hostas but I really need to keep up on it, seems the rain washes it away pretty quick, I think i'll try the pellets like your wife suggested maybe they'll last longer. thanks again

She said she adds some every 2 to 3 weeks.
Try some Irish Spring at about Deer Snout height around your Fruit Tree Trunks.

i'll have to try it, I just get tired of looking at fence all over the yard, also makes it harder to mow, lot's more weed whacking. I will try the soap on a couple of trees this fall. thanks

Lovely garden, Bear!

Thank You Disco!!

Sounds like a Good idea "No Driveway Pick up".
