I've had mine on a stump for the past 6 years. But the stump has rotted. I can go get another one at the wood lot. But is there something better ?

A nice chunk of a Microllam beam would do the trick.

I've debated doing this but not sure I want to remove the portability.

I had built a stand out of 2x4's and plywood I had and bolted it to it.
Drilled a hole in the top so the hammer could fit in it.
Had a vinyl cover over it to keep weather off.
The plywood would had disintegrated quickly in sun/rain otherwise.

I've seen them on a couple old car wheels .
I think @boykjo has something like that ? Maybe .

The biggest problem with a stump, is cutting it square with a chain saw. And if its not level, the pounding wears on the lag bolts holding it to the stump.

There's gotta be some kind of jig that can help square off the stump ?
