I wasn't sure where to put this, but this seems like as good a place as any. My wife and I both came down with a lovely summer sinus infection a few days ago. Mine almost instantly morphed into severe bronchitis according to the doc, but thankfully hers has remained just a sinus infection. Pretty sure it was due to cranking the AC in the bedroom during the recent hot spell.
Anyway, today I remembered something I came up with the when my wife was down with a cold last winter. It's essentially a spicy ginger lemon soup, but it's stupid easy and unbelievably good.
Start off with chicken broth. Any kind will do. We use Knorr low sodium powdered broth, only because that's what we had on hand. Mix up enough for your needs, according to the directions on the package. Usually a quart is plenty for 2 people. Then add some ginger. Use enough so you can taste it, but not so much that it's overpowering. Then I add lemon grass, again, enough to taste but not take over the whole thing. I use the kind that comes in a jar packed in liquid. If you don't have lemon grass, lemon juice would work as well. Then a few red pepper flakes sprinkled in for some zing. Cayenne would work here too. Let it simmer for about 15 minutes and drink it up. It's incredibly soothing and the heat of the peppers combined with the lemon and ginger really opens up clogged sinuses and bronchial tubes.
