I didn't know which section to put this in as it contains several questions...but here goes..

First off...my grill/smoker.  Technically not a smoker, but for me, works fine-ish.  Charbroil American Gourmet 600.  I am currently just putting charcoal on one side near the intake and indirect cooking on the other side....seems to work ok-ish (lots of "ishs" LOL).  I'm usually only smoking/grilling for 4 people (myself, wife + 2 kids)...but would like to get where I can have a few friends over too.  2d pic is of a little over 1/3 of the grilling surface with one grate removed for ease of access to the indirect burn fuel.

Now for the questions (really only 2 of them):

I saw some mods on to this particular grill on here, but for the life of me after 2 days of searching on here can't find them again :(

I don't know if I'll be able to add a SFB to it without major expense & construction....and even then if it's worth it to do so since this is one of the cheaper/thinner ones out there.  Would consider it though.  I've seen add-on side boxes for ~$70, but they're usually for a different brand and dunno if they're universal or not.

What mods would you recommend for this grill?

Now, for the fuel, I want to do Minion Method since I'd have to babysit a LOT on this otherwise, and opening/closing more often we know can jeopardize temp & tenderness.  I have these below and wonder if that'll suffice for a basket or if they're a bad idea?  Also would prefer to use lump instead of brickettes, but not sure how much these would hold...i'm guessing not enough, but cannot comment on that due to lack of experience.  The specs says that each one holds ~20 brickettes.

Thanks in advance and mods please move to the right place is this isn't it.

If you are not going to add the side fire box then your best bet is some sort of a charcoal basket. I suggest you use the serch bar above and type in "charcoal basket", the one that would work best for you is a variant of the ones made from expanded metal. They are cheap, and you can make them to size.

just my 2¢ but I would save my money until i could buy a larger smoker.

As you said to modify that one it's going to cost more

Why not put that coin towards one you want?

You could make a basket, but it looks like these would work until you could get a larger smoker.

Like I said, It's just my 2¢

X2 and you will finally have the smoker you want not the one you had to modify to make it work

Thx for the feedback all.  I'll definitely keep it in mind...just not sure if I'll be able to get a real one any time soon....never know...I may come across one someone's getting rid of one :D
