Well here is the humble begining of my pull behind. I don't have a pic of it before I tore the frame from under a popp-up camper, but you can get an idea. This one is after I widened the axle.


This is after narrowing the frame work on the right side and starting the railing. I

Finished narrowing the frame last night. Don't have a pic yet but will post one later today. I guess I can expound a little more on the project. A friend/co-worker was scrapping out the pop-up camper. I had asked him if he had just an axle laying around. He told me about the camper. I was just going to start with the axle from it, but thought STUPID take the whole frame, saves me from having to build the whole trailer. Anyway, he gave me the frame as long as I hauled off the camper. No prblem there. Right now with the free frame, I have about $60.00 in steel in it and use my shop at work along with the mig welder and metal saws. Boss is very cool about letting the employees use shop equipment on personal time.

I have to redo the tongue and finish the rails and the floor then its on to the fun part of the build...The Smoker itself.

Well it probably should but I do things backwards!!! ha ha ha.

I have a friend that builds concrete batch systems and he is going to roll a couple 4x8 sheets of 1/4 inch into the chamber and side fire box. The chamber should end up to be 4 feet long and roughly 3 foot diameter. Fire box will be the same only 2 feet wide. should turn out pretty good.

That frame looks exactly like the one I used to build my utility trailer from.

My neighbor's pop-up got rear ended, and he ended up parting it out.

I gave $50 for the rolling frame and after I got thru re-arranging it, It donated nearly every piece of metal I needed, except for side rail angle and the sheet metal for the floor. Mine has the wide tires.

why not make that fire box square?
from what i have researched, the better side fire box's are square....easier to tend, better able to get the coals off the bottom of the box, for better air flow........

I kinda like the idea of square to if ya gonna make it yourself. Seems to be easier!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been pondering the idea of a square firebox. I have found alot more pro's to a square one. I think that might be the way i'll go. Thanks for the suggestions.

Good idea about building the trailer first. When you friend finishes fabing your cahmber and fire box, you'll have some thing to load it on to bring it home. Easier to to off load it from a trailer than the bed of a pick'em up truck.
