Sun City, AZ
Hello all!

I have a nice heavy duty cover on my offset. I keep it on when the smoker isn’t being used. The problem is that the AZ sun is starting to take its toll.

I thought about putting up some sun shade on the sides of the canopy, but the frame is lightweight aluminum and we get some hefty winds here during monsoon season. I’d hate for the wind to trash the whole canopy!

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas?

Be a great time to think about a permanent frames pergola or similar over it. They make those out of aluminum too.

Im saving the link. What did your Gorilla cover run ya? You say is pretty heavy duty material?

I have a cover I bought 15 years ago on my Weber, cant find the company anymore, but its bomb proof-or was, its taken a beating.

I don't think the web site has been touched since she shut down.

I emailed her and she gave me to OK let members here know she is in business.
This is the response from here.
"yes I do some orders, not fully back in business but dipping my toes a little lol."

I prefer not to say the price, because I have bought a "lot" of covers from her for different things, and she may have given me a special price.
The shipping will bite you in the gluteus maximus.
Shipping charges have gotten outrageous.
Wife sent a baby blanket to my grandson and his wife, NM to MO and it cost a bit over $30.
And it is light weight.

Thanks for the quick responses!

We’re planning on moving in a couple of years, so I don’t want to invest in any type of a more permanent structure until then.

The cover I have is from Lonestar Grillz. I bought it with my smoker. It’s very heavy duty and still in great shape (just fading). I think I paid around $400 for it (it was 3 years ago). I just want to help protect the cover/smoker a little more from the wicked sun we have here.

Look into a product called 303 Protectant. It's very well liked in the marine community for protecting and extending the life of canvas, plastic, and rubber products that are exposed to water and UV.

Your current cover might be too far gone, but it will help with a new one.

thanks I'll look it up. When we moved both the smoker and grill covers got holes. not big but they are there. besides that its holding on.

Mel was shut down when I got my LSG. Paid $450 for it.
This cover & shipping was a lot less.

FYI - The cover for the Grilla was a bit unique, so I sent the cover to her to duplicate.
Didn't want a boxy generic looking cover. All grills are not created equal.
Sending the cover you have is probably best way to get a custom fit cover.

Grill/smoker covers are disposable. I'll spend less than $50 for a good, universal cover. If it only lasts 3-5 years, I have no problem with that. As long as it does it's job, I'm happy.

This has been a go-to for me for years.I tend to get it cheap as I have lots of friends in the boat building/outdoor business.

Similar sun here in Texas. I’ve resigned myself to treating covers as ‘consumables’; I change out covers every year or two. I usually buy generic covers (such as Char-Broil) from big box when I can catch a deal. I figure it’s cheap insurance for a $$$$ smoker or grill.

My cookers have boring shapes so new covers are cheap. But you'll want to extend the life of an expensive cover. Guess I'd just get a $5 Walmart tarp and some hooks and bunjees to keep it in place and make easy/repeatable to install. Then the tarp protects the cover, the cover protects the grill. Kinda' like wax protects the paint, the paint protects the car.

Thanks for the input everyone. I ended up ordering a couple of semi-custom shade cloth tarps. Figured I could attach them at the top and if needed, I could use some tent poles to hold up the bottom for added shade.

Once we end up moving in a few years, I’ll build something more permanent.

Late to the party but coversandall make custom covers in different grades. I have a recteq and nothing off the shelf fits.
It actually keeps moisture away from the grill in a downpour which my original cover did not do. Once the original cover was drenched, moisture seeped in.
