SO I went out and turned on my smoker this morning to smoke some dried beef, and the display is reading that the smoker is 300*f. Mind you it's only about 45* outside and the smoker is cold. So obviously the heat element will not turn on as it thinks the smoker is already at 300*. Has anyone else run into this, and is there an easy fix?

I've never had that happen . Did you try un plugging it , then plug back in .

Absolutely! Tried the unplug and plug back in. Tried disconnecting the digital control on top and reconnecting it. Seems to me its the internal thermometer that has gone bad since it thinks its 300* when the unit is still cold.

Maybe use a hairdryer, pot of hot water or wet paper towel to change the temp of the stick like Mes sensor on the back wall to see if it changes the controller from 300.

That's my guess also.... Maybe Masterbuilt can help you out with this problem... I don't know what they use for temperature measurement... Maybe a wire came off on the device... MB does use crappy connectors... Might just need some solder on a wire... The temp measure device "probably" runs down to the control unit in the bottom left of the smoker.... below the floor... Pull off the back and follow the wire from the probe that pokes out of the back, into the smoke chamber, and see where it goes...
Your situation is a new problem to me... Maybe others know what's going on....
Might be time for an aftermarket device to control your smoker........

THey want to replace the digital controller & circuit board. Circuit board is out of stock until early may. Cost to me is about $40.00, and that may or may not fix the issue. The next step is to replace the cabinet she said. I'm thinking it's time to buy a new unit and start over.

on the phone with them now. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's something easy. I've only had this unit for 1 1/2 years, so it's really not that old.

Their warranty isn’t that long, but they often take care of customers, if you talk nice to them.
Good luck.

You might want to check with these guys who have hooked up PIDs to their MES.
Most of them LOVE THEM!!

For sure . Before you do anything at least consider a controller . I had my 30 over 5 years and just put a Auber 1510 ELMP on it . I love it . I know that don't help you right now , but they are awesome . Here's a couple links .

Chopsaw, I was looking at your post where you did the rewiring, but my wire colors are a bit different, and I just want to be sure I do this correctly. I'm thinking I need to go White to Red, and Black to Blue for my smoker. Do you agree?

JZ_Focus JZ_Focus , Look at the thread linked above " no back removal needed " Go to post #97 . That wiring looks like yours I'm not 100 % sure but I think you could go either way white / red ,,, black / blue or black / red ,,, white / blue , but lets ask tallbm tallbm and @sm0kin .

Yep you are right chopsaw chopsaw . Technically I don't think he would have any issue with either of those wire configurations as long as he didn't go black to white.

Here is what I posted in the other thread where JZ_Focus JZ_Focus had the same image:https://www.smokingmeatforums.com/threads/auber-controller-added-to-my-mes-30.283584/#post-1944525

JZ I think the issue is the controller, circuit board, or the thermometer in the MES acting up.
Often times when a temp probe's wires are touching (internally) or the thermometer is just bad the temp reading is all kinds of crazy.

I personally would recommend NOT buying a whole other unit and instead spend the money on an Auber PID and do the simple rewire. When you get the system dialed in you will have a better performing unit than what Masterbuilt builds AND you can keep it running short of it being hit by a car :emoji_laughing:

WS-1510ELPM is ordered and should be here tuesday!

You'll be very glad of the purchase. I set mine, fill tray with dust for however long my smoke will be. Stick the inkbird in and go about my business.:emoji_thumbsup:

Oh BTW, once you do the rewire and use a PID you will need to generate smoke with the AMNPS (tray or tube) if you don't already have one. Most MES owners use one anyhow so this isn't usually an issue :)

I did the mailbox mod with an AMNPS from almost day 1 actually. Best money I could have spent.
